sarth MT and lava waves

so far i've only add tanked or dps'd this fight so hence the question. ran a 25 pug last night as dps and a few times the MT moved sarth and wound up getting 8 or so people either breathed or swiped. so i was thinking well, maybe he was avoiding flame waves. as the sarth tank, do you have to avoid these, or are you safe in the usual spot, if so, is there any reason that this should happen?
