We specifically do the fight by tanking him at the east side, and NOT MOVING the tank, because the first night (through lag, whatever) our tank couldn't manage to avoid it. Our healers said, "Screw it, we can heal through this", and proceeded to do that ever since. Sometimes it seems a bit close (lol), though. Sacred Shield seems to help a fair bit, at least on 10-man.

It does seem odd, though, that doing it the "hard way" is almost easier, at a certain point.

This is a classic example of why people perceive gear checks to be so high. In order to do it the 'hard way' you need a slightly higher gear level than if you were to be fully coordinated enough to do it the 'easy way'.

Honestly, If you can't do a simple fight like this with what little coordination is required you will continue to struggle through raiding and when a true coordination & gear check comes you will be forever stunted.

Incorrect. Doing this fight the "easy" way does not require coordination from the raid group as a whole. I see do reason to ever move even if it was the first time encounter simply because he isn't much of a gear check even if done the "hard" way. Honestly you can't tell me having a warrior intercept a hunter was a feat of coordination.
