[H] Utgarde Keep guide v2.0. By Threatco.

Postby Threatco » Tue Dec 23, 2008 1:40 am

Name: Utgarde Keep
Location: Howling Fjord
Emblems: 3
Difficulty: *

Trash Mobs:

Vykrul Mostly melee aoe tank and spanks. Sometimes a caster to deal with first. Strategists cast AOE bombs and these should be your primary concern to avoid/interrupt.

Dragonflayer Strategist http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=23956

Drakes Do knock back and come with a handler who does ranged physical attacks.

Enslaved Proto-Drake http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=24083

Undead. Comes in 2 varieties, the big miners, and smaller fast moving pats. Both are easy basic melee. They are in a room with 1 strong task master who is a tank/spank who charges.

Dragonflayer Overseer http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=24085#abilities

Flying drake/rider. Rider can be cced off and stunned. Doesn't seem to have a knock back. The rider will reduce your armor and slow you.

Proto-Drake Rider http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=24849#abilities

Savage Worg. Non elites. They enrage and do Pounce. Leaps to the enemy's location. In addition, Physical damage is increased by 200% for 5 sec. They have low HP.

Savage Worg http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=29735#abilities

Bosses:

Prince Keleseth: http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=23953

Ask your group to stack near you. The boss is tank and spank for aggro. He will summon hard hitting low hp undead every 45 seconds or so. He will also cast a frost trap spell on a random party member about as often. This is a single target CC/DOT and prevents 100% of healing. To remove it your party must target the party member and DPS them until the Ice Block is removed. Having party be near by helps pick up adds and get to ice blocks faster.

Stack group on tank/DPS adds/DPS ice tombs

Skarvald the Constructor: http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=24200

A pair of bosses you fight at same time. One caster. One Melee. They will both randomly charge/cast at other members but the majority of their attacks will be on who they have aggro with so it's tank and spank. When one dies they become a ghost for the rest of the fight. These ghosts are more painful then their living selves. So to avoid fighting ghosts you want to have the two die at the same time or as close as possible. It is preferred to have the mage die first as ghost form melee is more likely to one shot someone.

Kill at same time / Kill mage first by a little bit

Ingvar the Plunderer: http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=23954

Has a living and an undead phase. During the living phase he is tank and spank except he will have a frontal cone slam ability. Just watch for the cast bar for slam, then back out of range about 10 yards, or go through him. Be careful of the pillars they can cause you to LOS your healer.

After enough damage he will turn undead. Now his slams will do more damage and he will do a roar that does shadow damage to everyone unavoidable. So do the fight same as before. The group will take some small 2k hits on the roars.

At some point he will toss a his axe and it will ghost "whirlwind" around the room. It is kind of hard to see and does some hard damage so if the healer is struggling it's best to avoid it. Otherwise it's just clothies problem.

2 phases / Avoid slams / Avoid Whirwind axe / Don't bring boss near group / Watch pillar LOS

Strategy:

AOE to the first boss if you can handle the stuns. Otherwise watch for the pats and you can pull 3 at a time then kill the single pats alone.

CC/deathgrip or los the caster on the pull before first boss. Also mind the bombs that the Dragonflayer Strategist lay.

Have holy wrath ready for the undead packs. The taskmaster is stunable.

Some undead you can skip but they die very fast too.

In the room with the drakes, CC or ignore the handler after pull. DPS down the drake with back to a wall.

Stick to one side as most the room you can skip..

On the way to last boss there is pulls of 4. A Vykrul healer and melee and 2 non elite Savage Worgs. The healer can do painful aoe too so take care of her. DPS down the Savage Worg fast. They all can be CC.

Quests:

Proof of Demise: Ingvar the Plunderer (Daily Heroic) Horde

The tombs last about 8 seconds and deal about 15000 DOT. A few abilities have been known to break it like bubble/blink/human racial but that could have been changed. Good luck.

It's pretty much the new SH without being as punishing.

Just run in yelling your favourites catch phrase, aggro everything and aoe down.

Failing to mention the AoE bomb that the strategist lay is a big shortcomming of this guide. The AoE caused by them is far more dangerous than any of the casters. Stopping their cast of it or shold that failing, running out of range is the most important part of most of the trash.

Will keep reading to determine other points that could be strengthened.

EDIT:
Pretty sure that the ability on the last boss is a frontal cone not a 360 degree AoE.

AoEing on the trash pating at the anvils can be a bad idea. They will stun and the more you have on you the more likely you are to eat a stun and take a massive damage influx.

Wolves are non-elites and give an AP buff to the other mobs. They should be taken out first by your dps. Not needed to tank them as they go down very quickly.

The overseer of the undead will charge so have a consecrate down to be sure to pick up the undead while stunned. The undead he oversees are none elite. Some will put a debuff on you that lowers your str and walk speed. Not necessary to cleanse mid fight but doing so after a fight will let you get to the next pack faster.

Ingvar has the cone attack as well as the group wide damage, Maji.

Also, is the bomb really that bad? I ran it today and the only time much damage was taken by anyone was when I fucked up a pull and lagged a bunch on ingvar and ate a smash or three.

One is not a great danger to you but I can take out a low hp melee dps. Double bombs (a few packs have a chance to spawn two strategist) can pose a threat to the tank however.

Last boss Phase 1 is frontal cone, Phase 2 is 360, IIRC.

UK has an extraordinary amount of trash -- most of any instance? -- so is nice to farm for rep.

Ingvar strat simplified: Run behind him when he starts casting smash. He doesn't do anything risky to the dps in the time it takes to go back to facing him away from the party.

The same applies to Dark Smash. Might want to have shadow protection (instead of devo if you have to)

Incorrect.

Both Smash and Dark Smash are in a frontal cone, the 360 effect is when he does the dark fart of which I don't remember the name that does some damage and debuff shadow.

http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=23954

phase 1:
Smash
STaggering Roar

phase 2:
Dark Smash
Dreadful Road

For the Smash/Dark Smash just run behind (through) him, it's a frontal only effect.
For the roar eat it and and carry on.

Ingvar does cleave.

Hey guys. defiantly going to add more on the strategists. I was at work and I knew they did some form of AOE but favored omitting it for now then adding possible misinformation. More will be added soon.

If anyone else sees more to add, it will be appreciated, and I'll add to it.

Just to clarify about Dark Smash, it does both frontal cone damage (like normal smash), and AoE damage. He has another AoE ability, but that one just does damage (and maybe an interrupt or something), the Dark Smash AoE also knocks you down.

I ran some guildie through UK yesterday because it was the daily heroic. It's obvious that some of them have never set foot in the place, since they got the "On the Rock" achievement purely by accident. Good thing we didn't loose anyone.

The Flying Drake Rider does a pushback, but he uses it raerly. Maybe only if he's not dismounted.

PS: Or it got patched out.

He does it, but you pretty much have to be standing in him to get hit by it, and it's not really that big a deal even if you are hit.
