At 5 healers, the shield can still be entirely ignored as well; the regeneration is fast enough to counter it. Just don't stand in static.

We went with an "every man for himself" p3 strat, worked fine, as soon as the fuckups stopped.. fucking up
The healer strat is probably safer, but having everyone able to get mass stacks, apart from the people that get focussed continuously at the start seems like a dps increase.
For instance I'm able to get really high stacks even when focussed in a row, unless it happens early on, I stack with 1 combo till 15 and then I start stacking with 4, leaving ample time to heal up/shield

You can get far higher stacks if you don't have to worry at all about getting interrupted, which is what the healer-stacking strategy brings.
Having everyone rely on independently escaping is high-risk and leads to suboptimal DPS on random raid members. Plus you can't have nobody healing, since that means people will be healing themselves -> more lost DPS time.
The mechanics of Life Burst massively favor the clumping-up strategy IMO.

He hits pretty hard. 20-25k breaths, 7-11k melee hits. It can be really rough if you aren't topped off after a vortex and he immediately does a breath for 25k... which he will. He does a breath right after a vortex every time.
I've successfully tanked it, and I'm sitting roughly around 37k hp raid buffed.

i kinda haxed it, we had the dps to do it within 3 vortexs. 2x priest wings + shield wall for the 3 landings and it was easy mode

I just read this on EJ and figured you guys might enjoy putting it to use.
We had a bit of fun with him last night trying to get the 5 minute achievement in a unique way. I was looking through our log parse from our first kill and happened to notice that spark puddles are multiplicative, instead of additive, among other things. This means that instead of a flat 50%, 100%, 150%, 200% and so on damage increase, they instead increase damage by the following:
1 spark = 150% damage (100% of your damage plus 50%)
2 spark = 225% damage (50% of 150% of your damage, which is 75%, added on to 150%)
3 spark = 337.5% damage
4 spark = 506.25% damage
5 spark = 759.375% damage
6 spark = 1139.0625% damage
Now, on top of that, he spawns one spark in the beginning, and then two between every vortex (about a minute apart). This will give you 8 sparks to work with before 5 minutes (the 9th should come right around 5:00). We did a bunch of math that I won't bother to post and concluded that it would be possible to take 9.5 million HP off him in the 25 seconds he takes to roleplay his way into phase 2. So we worked out a strategy that allowed us to root 5 sparks behind him, kill them all at once, and go to town.
The results were pretty spectacular. Our highest recorded hit was:
21:43'48.391 Ultimaknight Frostfire Bolt hits Malygos for 117414 #UNKNOWN. (Critical)
Unfortunately, though we DID actually knock him to 0% before phase 2 started, he flew away with 1hp and robbed us of our achievement, and we had to do the other phases anyway. =( I guess you can technically say we skipped phase 3 since the first dragon missle that hit him killed him.

We use Divine Guardian as we're dropping from vortex, and priest use Divine Spirit. We have a rotation on this.
Also for Phase 3 we just stack on the raid leader all healers spam AOE heal and eat the surges, and just move left when static charges come along. Easy fight after you get that down.

On Twilight's Hammer this is MMM-LAG-US!
//startrant
Four nights of wipes because every time you pull ping goes from 50-60 to about 6000 or more, healers cant heal, dps cant dps, and mobs warp everywhere (we even had Malagos attack our MT during P2.)
Doubt this is effecting many other servers tbh.
//endrant
Well we killed him, such easymode with Three healers and no lag! (i.e. when everyone else left the instances because of lag)
I found to heal its best to cast to a waltz yes sad I know, I did it in my head "one two three hot, one two three hot, one two three hot, one two three hot and aoe. one two three hot"
if you need to shield its regardless of where you are in the rotation you will have 45+ energy even after an aoe so sheilding yourself will leave you with ~25energy)
37000HPSs healing made the other two healers feel a little slack with only 21k apeice.
if your doing this with immence lag, be prepared for muchos wipes on enrage because of lacking dps in p1/2
