Anyone in Heroics yet?
If so can you confirm you need 540 def to tank it?

540 defense is just the new 490 defense. You could tank heroics without being uncritable it just left you susceptible to a random crit at the wrong time that might drop you.
I'd imagine not many heroics (if any yet) as there are only limited numbers trickling into 80 still.

540 against bosses, yes.
Like in BC, you needed 490 defense to be uncrittable against bosses (3 levels higher than you, standard boss mechanic) but less to be uncrittable against mobs lower level than that.
This is also the same in wrath, you need 540 defense to be uncrittable against bosses, but less defense to be uncrittable against lower level mobs, thus 540 is really not a neccesity to have in heroics.
I'm sorry but I can't remember the numbers for uncrittability against lower level mobs :/

I've just regemmed all my gear, crafted a few bits, and hit 540 def. Health took a large hit, down to 22k with kings atm. I haven't tanked any heroics yet (guild has 2 ferals at 80, but I'm the only healer), but they're not toooo horrible. With full T6 I've healed Uthgarde Keep + Pinnacle, Violet Hold, and Nexus. It's pretty tough tbh, damage is huge, and with crits (ferals are uncrittable through talents), I think the tank would have died a lot more. He was taking 10k white hits on King Ymiron with spirit strike stacked.
Unless you're in a very geared group, get 535 def before doing heroics.

Heroics are so easy that you don't even need defense cap. At least with tier 6ish gear you can pretty much start doing them right away. You may wanna CC a bit though but with a good healer not even that is required.
It feels like its almost easier than doing lvl 70 heroics in sunwell gear. Which makes me a bit sad

Ymiron is a special case, if you ask me. That guy hits hard even on the non-heroic.Mex wrote:I've just regemmed all my gear, crafted a few bits, and hit 540 def. We had a team run every 5-man 80 heroic last night. Sunwell gear is sufficient, despite a tank that was a few defense rating shy of 540 (he'd resocketted for str to use the gear for levelling - I'm not sure if he had swapped back to defense yet).
With a few very heavy-hitting exceptions, heroics are doable while being vulnerable to crits. While I and everyone else here very vehemently will argue that it should be your first goal to reach crit immunity, you have to start somewhere. I would not recommend pressing beyond the heroic level with subpar defense, but if your healer is on the ball being ~1% short of the defense line isn't going to make running heroics a non-option.

I did a couple heroics with like 507 defense yesterday. They're all just as easy as nerfed TBC heroics.

Doing Old Kingdom now, it's painful but doable.

Is Gun'drak just an exception? We did Utgarde Keep and Pinnacle and they were pretty easy, but the last boss in Gun'drak just murdered us. His damage output in rhino form is comparable to pre-nerf Brutallus, he can drop a 24k tank in ~2 seconds.

Just did Heroic Violet Hall and Hall of Lightening an hour after dinging 80. Def was at 496 but scored the legs off final boss in VH. Which put me at 508. Both very doable. But my 1st priority is to get to the Def cap.
