Tankadin Glossary for Wotlk

Postby majiben » Tue Oct 21, 2008 9:10 am

Lore wrote:This thread is intended to be a glossary of sorts, to catalog and define the many, occasionally confusing, terms and acronyms that we use. I'd love some help from the community, so if you think of any missing terms, or have a different definition for one already listed, let me know and I'll edit it in! =)
-from the original thread

This is a redone Glossary of terms for a tankadin adapted from Lore’s original one intended for Wotlk and thus has some abilities in their future forms rather than their live forms. If you spot spelling errors, syntax errors, or format errors feel free to PM me about them so I can fix them. If you have a suggestion please post it in the thread so we can get some discussion on it.

NOTE: This is out of date with patch 4.0.1. Please remember some of these terms no longer apply or have changed and the advice on them is not always accurate.

With the removal of Crushing Blows the danger from parried attacks is greatly reduced and thus parry gibbing is less likely to occur. In the past the danger was that Shield Block or Holy Shield charges would be used up by parry hasted attacks and result in a series of crushing blows. PLEASE NOTE it is not okay for melee dps to attack from the front on most bosses as it will result in less dps and increased tank damage due to the large number of parriable attacks a whole raid group has compared to a single tank.

Parry Haste - An increase in attack speed of a defender's next swing following the defender's successful parry of an attacker's attack. When a defender parries an attack, the remaining time on the defender's current swing is reduced by 40% of the defeder's weapon speed, unless this would result in a reduction to less than 20% of swing time remaining. This can occur for both players and NPCs. PLEASE NOTE that increasing your parry chance does not cause a mob to attack faster but increases the tank's attacks.

Parry Rating - Stat. Increases your chance to parry.

PoJ (acronym) - Tier 3 2-point retribution talent. Pursuit of Justice.

Q

R

Raid Buffed - Having all of the buffs available in the player's average raid when "ready to pull". It does NOT include temporary "cooldown" buffs such as Nightmare Seeds, Avenging Wrath, or Stoneshield Potions.

Uncrushable - Not susceptible to receiving a Crushing Blow from a creature while Holy Shield is active. Redoubt is typically not considered when achieving Uncrushable status. No longer a valid term as raid bosses can not crush anymore. SEE Block Cap

Unhittable - SEE Block Cap

I was hoping you could post a def for RNG - I've seen it all over PvP discussions and in a few PvE articles here and I've yet to see an explanation of it.

Thanks and great post.

**edit** just popped up in another post but by context it makes more sense - I'm guessing random number generation?

just a spelling correction

SB = Shadow Bolt (not blot)

nice work! I'm a warrior tank / guild officer trying to learn more about tankadins, so this is some good info to refresh myself on

You might want to add Unhittable, I think a few of us were using that to describe the point at 102.4 when you can no longer be hit without it being blocked, dodged, missed or parried.

True but I still have trouble using that term because I think of rogues tanking Gruul when I hear that. Added as a redirect for clarity's sake.

Would love to see holy shieldslam and holy cleave in there, just because theyre sooo much easier to say than the tongue-twisting Shield of the righteous and Hammer of the righteous.
Just like thunderjudge instead of... hm... judgements of the just. More tongue twisting..

Shouldnt it be 'unavoided' damage, since armor is a form of mitigation and is calculated into EH?

Maybe I'm just being nit-picky but it made me go look up how to calculate EH again, lol.

Nope. Say you had a warrior with 10k HP the 10% damage reduction and a 50% armor reduction. His effective health is how much damage that is leathal to him (10K) is when it is applied to a target with no armor or damage reduction (unmitigated target).

Code: Select all
10,000 * 1/(1 - .1) * 1/(1 -.5) = 22, 222

the 22,222k is the warrior's EH.
