On top of this Illidan is also doing his part and will stop casting Shear on players.

Well okay, they never actually said "We're removing Shear", but they made very firm nods toward it. Something to the effect of "What about Illidan's Shear ability?" "Well maybe Illidan will just forget how to Shear ;)"

I'll personally miss shear, as it was the one ability that made my guild give me the go ahead to MT him each week.

I'll definitely miss shear, it's one of the things that made tanking him so fun. The rest is almost tank and spank.
