Melee hits, underrated ?
It seems to be common knowledge that "white hits" are useless and a minimal fraction of your total TPS ( which means AP and melee hit are crap ). I use to think so too until I started to look at my Recap stats.
Sample from an Heroic Mechanar run :
My data is usually like that, though sometimes with a lot more consecration.
Of course in terms of threat you have to multiply every holy source by 1.9 and holy shied by 2.25 (?). Still it adds up to
Holy Shield 175869
SoR 142557
JoR 122162
Melee 111136
Consecration 80307
I guess the point of this post is to make you think about things that are supposly "known" and that no one really looks into. While melee hits are not the first source of threat, they are still significant and far from 1% of your total aggro as it is sometimes said.
( I just noticed 108 glancing blows (10%), ouch )

Re: Melee hits, underrated ?
that's damage done, I assume.
Now factor in threat.
White damage: 111,136
Holy Shield: 148,517
SoR: 142,557
JoR: 122,162
Consecrate: 80,991
AS: 57,345
Reflective Shield (?): 16,397
Sum of all threat: 556,943
% of threat from white damage? 19%
Takes 1.59 pts of +dmg to see 1 TPS increase.
Takes 7 pts of strength to see 1 TPS increase, IIRC.
While strength, as a whole, is largely useless.. +Hit is much less so. Less misses == more holy damage.

I don't think anyone ever has said less than 1% (any links to that?), but it is definitely near the bottom of the list, so it comes down to priorities. We have talents like precision and weapon expertise to increase our white damage. It's harder to on gear, and the returns are not much while we sometimes lose a lot to get white damage stats.
Still it depends on the fight. In some fights, my consecration is #1, sometimes it is Holy Shield. It is very fight and playstyle dependent.
Also holy shield gives another 35% threat, not 25% so your numbers should be:
Holy Shield 200498
SoR 142557
JoR 122162
Melee 111136
Consecration 80307
In your example, white damage threat is about 17% of your total threat, where holy damage threat is about 83% of your threat.
You are right, we shouldn't forget white damage threat, but I am not sure we should prioritize it either.
EDIT:
Just as an example, here are my stats from a void reaver attempt where I had aggro most of the time:
SoR 41310
JoR 39361
Cons 34320
Melee 24674
HS 18045
DMFC:V 2561
AS 783
In terms of threat:
SoR 78489
JoR 74785
Cons 65208
Melee 24674
HS 46285
DMFC:V 4865
AS 1487
So for that fight my melee damage provided only about 8% of my total threat and I even have precision and some +hit from my ALD. It's all situational.
