How much spell damage is needed to take a kara (minimum)?

Just wondering how much spell damage is needed to go to kara

I believe with simular geared people, it's been 163 (121 from weapon + 42 from oil.) Needing more would depend on how much badge gear your dps is sporting

I'd make that 203, 121 +40 for the spelldamage enchant + wizard oil.

It isn't a massive concern in Kara since most of the trash and all but 3 of the bosses are vulnerable to Exorcism.

What about beyond Kara? E.g. heroics and Magister's Tce, etc?

edit: I know it can vary pending on your group's gear, but say a moderately well-geared team of DPS (eg best craftables mixed with Kara & Season 2 gear).

Kara = 100
Gruul/Mag = 200
SSC/TK = 200-300
Hyjal/BT = 400

These are minimums.

Considering equally geared dps, that is. If you're running kara with T4/badge people, you're not gonna keep aggro with 100 sd (not to mention T5 or above)

I have 400 spell damage and that just about holds aggro from our T4/badge/S2 geared Shadow Priests, Elemental Shamans, Mages, Rogues and Warlocks. This is for Karazhan, Heroics and ZA. Our DPS is bloody good though for our progression level.

If your starting Karazhan in Blues/Crafted Epics/Badge Gear you really want a minimum of @ 200 Spell Damage with equally geared DPS. This is easily achievable with weapon and oils and if needed, food buff.

Also, group buffs help:
- Wrath of Air will nearly double your SD, if you're low on it.
- Sanctity Aura will stack with that.

So, if your DPS is threat-capped, put a shaman and ret paladin in your group. Windfury synergizes well with SoR, for better single target threat, but your aoe threat won't be quite as good as with WoA.

and while you wait in queue you can gather to mats to have Belt of the Guardian made for you, which is like 225+40 enchant+ 42 oil+19 belt=336, which will do you fine

I had 181 unbuffed when i first started.
+wiz oil, +greater arcane potion ontop of that at all times.

Threat was a bit of an issue, but I have a good guild were the dps
A. have omen installed and
B. know how to use it.
