This is a great guide. I went in and tanked Heroic SP for the first time and did just fine. :D

Maybe I missed it as I havn't slept in about 19 hours at the time I've read this thread and made this post but what would be the minimum avoidance recommended for heroics?

I understand stamina is king but you still need some avoidance. Right now my focus is getting ready to run heroics and I'd like to be set with the right amount of stamina and avoidance. I'm pugging alot and expect to be in groups with alot of "inconsistent" players so I'd like to be satisfactory if not slightly ahead of the curve for the content. Thanks

Tip: shaman can chain drop grounding totem to absorb spells they don't interupt with earth shock. This is *amazing* in MrT!

I know it would be great to get a cut and dry answer to this question like "You need 19% dodge, 15% parry and 18% block to tank heroics" but the truthful answer is that it depends on several variables that can vary wildly.

Your healer's gear and skill level will be a massive factor in how well-geared you need to be.

The instance in question will also make a big difference. Shattered Halls for instance has very little magic damage, so avoidance is of greater benefit than it would be in a caster-heavy instance like Steam Vaults (which also has some very heavy hitting melee mobs, but most of the trash pulls have 2 or even 3 casters). Against casters, the only real defense is stamina (and interrupts from your other party members, along with HoJ!).

The thing to keep in mind is that you won't have the gear of your dreams when you're starting out. As long as you pick up most of the good tanking pieces per the gear guides (things like Dabiri's Enigma and the boots from the Mana Tombs escort quest, items which are easy to get but have solid amounts of avoidance) and maybe a crafted epic or two (Darkmoon Card: Vengeance or Bracers of the Green Fortress as examples) you should be fine.

When you're starting out at first, you're going to have to depend more on smart playing to keep you alive rather than your gear. Helping other people keep you alive (using CC, having rogues stun, etc) will really be what gets you through the first several heroics.

well I feel sheepish. I have been reading threads all over this site pounding that uncrushable number into my brain and now that I'm 1.4% shy of uncrushable I was starting to wonder why my health was just getting lower and lower... Go figure, I don't need to be uncrushable for heroics >.<
I swear this is the first thread I've seen that mentioned that, thank you!

New here, great site and a great thread, ty.

Be very carful when you pull. Some of the mobs will spawn a possesor, and he'll mindcontroll one of you. Even the tank. 2 mages make this room much easier, and boomkin can cyclone occasionally as well. Some of the two mob pulls should both be sheeped so you can deal with the spawned adds first. Lots of shadowpriests in there, so shadow resist aura is good.

If your group is all 70's the trash in this room can be skipped. I have no idea if a 67, 68 or 69 can pull this off. A 66 will get aggro'd

After you instance in, if you go towards the left side of the room keep the coffins to your right (be sure to hug the coffins.) Just watch the patrolling Soul Priestess.

I have done this many times solo trying to get the pattern for the Felsteel gloves to drop to help level my Blackmsmithing. (only the Monks drop the pattern)

Once you get past the second coffin, depending on how fast you do this, there might be a Monk waiting for you. If he isn't there, he will be coming soon, burn him down and the rest of the Crypts is waiting for you.

All the elites spawn a non-elite add.

Have your DPS kill the possessors, clerics and mages first. They can ignore the solidiers and stalkers (they will die on your shield.)
