Advice on Rings...

Postby DraenorGauss » Sat Jul 21, 2007 10:46 pm

I'm working (tanking) my way up to Kara through the standard BC instances. Haven't done any heroics yet.

I have 2x:

Iron Band of the Unbreakable
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=27436

I just turned in 50 spirit shards and got this (didn't know what else to do with them?):

Seal of the Exorcist
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28555

The Iron Band has more defense, but the Seal of the Exorcist has resilience. With 2x Iron Band, total defense is >490, whereas with the Seal of the Exorcist total defense is 486.

Which one is better as I make my way up to kara? Does it matter?

Thanks,

the seal of the exorcist would probably serve you better as you improve your gear in 5mans, so long as you're uncrittable by whatever is hitting you.

Seal of exorcist I guess, but you could get a better ring, and you don't really need the spell damage/hit if you got a decent wepon (such as CB). I'd try and get the ring out of Arcatraz (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28407#M0z) or maybe Andormu's Tear if you're low on avoidance (no stamina, but lots of avoidance for uncrushability.)

Not to pull away from this man's (old) question, but where do we go for tanking rings past uncrushablity?

I have Andormu's tear, and Elementium band of the sentry?

are the rings with Stam/armor and straight +def better overall then these 2 rings that give boosts the block/dodge parry?

Is there a set itemization progression for tanking rings that I missed?

I would suggest trying to upgrade Andormu's Tear as soon as you can. While it is a great rink for getting uncrushable, its lack of stats make it worse than some other rings.

Based on your armory, I have your avoidance w/ HS up at 113%. Given that you only need 102.4%, that's a lot of extra avoidance. While avoidance isn't bad, per se, at the same time you could put that extra avoidance to good use else where (such as increasing your stamina/armor).

Personally, I'm a big fan of the Voilet Eye rep tanking ring. At exalted especially, that is a great ring - lots of armor and stamina. I used that and Elementium Band of the Sentry for a long time (until last night, when I got the ring from Aran).

I try to keep my avoidance as close to 102.4% as possible. This allows me to increase my health more, since that is a weakness of ours. I do keep gear around that gives me more avoidance, but in general I try to stack stamina/armor over avoidance.

While what you said is true - however I was going for the golden baseline of at lest 20 percent base dodge - which with the violet signet and A'dal's ring from mag will drop me from 20 to 17 percent dodge x.x

should I just hold out for the tanking rings from TK trash and Tidewalker?
or just skip straight into Kara rep reward / a'dals?

(current armory is for aoe farming) x.x
