Wrath of the Lich King...
Someone was telling me last night that we're going to have to "trade-in" a lev 55+ char to be able to make a Death Knight...
Anyone heard this, or is it misinformation from the guy telling me?

Nope. If you have a lv55+ character you can create a Deathknight. Your character doesn't become a Deathknight. The Deathknight is a fresh character that takes up one of your 10 available slots. If you have 10 characters you have to delete one to have a Deathknight on that server. Of course, unless you're some uber-nerd with 8 lv70s and 2 bank alts, then you should already have your name reserved with one of your free slots.
I have Ünderbheit(Jawless Forsaken) and Dëthkløk(Gnome) reserved.

Blizzard said you require to complete a quest line that can be taken at level 55 in order to make one.

not even anymore sadly. Now as long as you have a toon that is over level 55? you can just make one.
chalk up another good idea ruined by giving into casuals
but even to the OP.. like last year at blizzcon they even put the rumor of turning in a character at rest.

Gnome DK needs to DIAF imo, they really should have made them lore-relevant races.

Why should Blizzard hide that what is supposed to be the gimmick for the expansion behind quests and scare customers away?
There are actualy players out there that play this game more or less as a solo game. My guild is full of them - they twink a character to 70, max their tradeskills as far as they can get without going into instances/needing groups and then roll another char and do the same.

I know a ton of people who do that... but they'll rarely admit to it.
I rule.
