Having trouble tanking heroics
Hi all.
First off, great forum. Have spent many hours reading and learning a lot off you lot.
Now, I think I need help and I am hoping the answer to my problem can be found here.
First off, the armory link:
http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Thunderhorn&n=Shannovar
Basically, the simple question is; should I be able to tank heroics with that spec?
The reason I ask is that some people tell me that I could, but I have tried a couple of times and got bashed big time. Tried Ramparts and Mechanar and didn't do very well.
Now I got some people telling me that I need at least 12k unbuffed to do heroics. (I even had a group tell me today that I need 14k buffed!).
So what it comes down to is are they right in that I am not quite equipped for heroics? Or am I doing something wrong?
Also, if I am underspecced, any suggstions on what I should get.
Phew, that is quite a list. Sorry, I don't mean to be a pain. I know this question has probably be asked a thousand times, but I feel quite stuck here and I was hoping someone could help.
Thanks.

Well I started running them month ago at about 10.5 unbuffed 12.2 around there buffed. I mean I don't think the problem is health and it is definitely not Spell Damage cause you hve enough to handle Heroics like BOT with you SD>
You need better dodge/parry/block stats. At the moment their a bit low. I suggest a Kara run. OR you can start joining Heroics as a healer or RET Paladin to gain some badges to get some gear.
Start off with a new helm and chest I would think
135 badges and you get the

This should bring both Dodge and Block about 3% each.

Your gear should be fine for the easier Heroics. Slave Pens and Underbog with some CC for the bigger Groups should work.
But you took a lot of talents you really don't need and didn't get some you should take. For example you don't want to miss Deflection. 5 points for 5% parry is cheap for a nice Avoidance-boost.
I'd go for this build http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=sZVhxIx0zMgqtVbx

Thanks for the advice so far, exactly the kind of thing I was after.
Towelliee, thats the sort of thing I keep hearing about. People will say 'I run heroics with only 11k unbuffed..' while others, like those idiots today, say you need 14k. I suppose the trick is to find some good players to group with.
Also, thanks for the armour suggestions. I think a few Kara runs as a OT might help me with getting that many badges.
Neara, I was under the impression that Ramparts was one of the easier heroics? Also, I was meaning to mention my talent tree, so thanks for reminding me. You see, this is my first Wow character, and I have never respecced or redone my talents. So now that I have learnt more about the game, I think I might go and redo my talents to that build you suggested.
Thanks again.

I just noticed I posted the wrong link

The one above has 3 points open. I took one point out of imp. judgement to get Blessing of Kings and 3/5 Reckoning.
But you also could go for 2/2 imp judgement, BoK and Spellwarding. It's personal preference. I really like the Threat-boost that Reckoning gives.

In general, read the talents sub-furum's sticky -- it has a really good layout of varuous builds and why they're good. It's really hard to go wrong, spec wise, if you follow the cookie cutter ones.
Slave pens is pretty nice. Not many large pulls, except near the end, and then you can either CC some, if you don't feel you can tank it all at once. If you can get a priest to mind control, and maybe one other CC for rare occasions, you can also likely do botanica for 5 badges.
edit: ramparts on heroic has some REALLY hard hitting mobs, I've not yet dared go there. Some of the mobs in mechanar are pretty crazy too, if you dont have decent effective health and avoidance. (and a rogue to kick charged fists
) Try the easier heroics before those.

I think I am in the same situation as you, gladly I found 3 more or less constant groups that are lacking healers and as I am usualy the only tank around at night they where stuck with me for the beginning.
My three recomendations:
What you want to do is use CC. Use CC alot! If the area allows to pull so that you can use fear, use that as well.
Tell your healers if your running pugs that you will need A LOT of healing in advance.
Also as you are propably getting hit realy realy hard in the beginning (like me) stack stammina over avoidance imho. In my avoidance set I have ~ 17% dodge/parry & 21% block but only 12,5k hp and with less avoidance I sit unbuffed at around 14,xk hp. And those 1,5k hp realy made a hughe difference in surviving big hitters like the double boglord pull or a corpserun.
The one group I am running with features a holy priest with 2,4k +healing.
Not realy a need for CC with her (exept hughe pulls), but the other two groups we usualy CC everything we can. Is a little bit slower mind you but wiping is even worse.
Dont know if this makes any sense, thats just my personal experience and how it went over the last week for me.

.
You have been reading the forums then
1. You have a +26 healing 9 spell damage gem in your shoulder?
2. You have a +spell damage shoulder chant not avoidance one?
3. Why the strange headpiece felsteel helm is better be age b4 u replace
If all this is to just get extra spell damage change your shield to the http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34675 you are miles from uncrushable anyhow.
With your neck http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29336 should be easy to get ... more stam and buffers +def
Finger replace arcane band with http://www.wowhead.com/?item=31078 more stam more +def
You are a jewelcrafter http://www.wowhead.com/?item=24126 you might look at for a trinket. You might also like to look at http://www.wowhead.com/?item=24125 no better than your current trinket defense wise but a nice use feature.
I can easily get you past 12K HP unbuffed playing on netcrafter with +495 def and better avoidance.
The issue may be you drop spell damage to 240ish and if it is my suggestion is go do battlegrounds and get the S2 mace save yourself some nightmares.

You should have seen me before I started reading this forum.
I am in the process of changing my character, but detailed feedback like this is what I need.
If you look at my character again, you will see that I have made some of the changes you suggested.
The others may take a little while.

But isn't that the point? I am trying to reach uncrushable cause I want to start raiding. The problem is, up until now, I have always had to sacrifice something to get a stat up, so I am having trouble finding a good balance.
Anyway, what you have suggested is a good start and I hope it will get me moving in the right direction.
Thanks.
