Defense = avoidance?

Postby fizikz » Fri Jun 13, 2008 10:09 am

Hey, so i was wondering just how much avoidance my defense is worth, it says "reduces chance to be hit and critically hit by 6%" or whatever...is that 12% avoidance? or 6?

Every point of Defense above 490 is .2% Block/Parry/Dodge... easy math.

QFT

However at the 490 cap that you require you should be calculating extra defense as avoidance only, because if you're not at 490 you need to get it, and if you have it that should be your base Block/Parry/Dodge that you're going to maximize from here... making decisions as to whether to swap out defense over 490 for more avoidance gear should be weighed on that scale.

Defense does several things:

Increases your parry
Increases your dodge
Increases your block
Increases your chance to be missed
Decreases your chance to be crit

So when your defense says "6%" that is 6% of each of the above, for a total of 18% avoidance (dodge, parry, miss) and 6% additional uncrushability (block).

For quick reference:

15 defense rating = 1% uncrushability
20 defense rating = 1% pure avoidance

Remember that on your character sheet, the listed amounts of dodge, block and parry already include the amount you're getting from defense.

And of course Miss is the best type of avoidance since it applies no matter if you are attacked from behind or knocked down or any other way incapacitated

Every point of Defense above 490 is .2% Block/Parry/Dodge... easy math.

Every point of defense skill above the attackers attack skill is 0.04% to miss, block, parry, dodge, and crit reduction. Every point of the attackers skill over the defense skill it is 0.02%. So the 0.02% only applies if the attackers attack skill is higher than your defense skill. If you're at 490 that is HIGHLY unlikely. It doesn't change when you go over 490, but at 490 the crit reduction is worthless.

I didn't know that miss-chance caps out. As far as I have read there is no cap on it.

Miss is like at the very top of the combat table, so it's the last thing that falls off. So there's no way you can ever cap it with current gear, as you'll need an ridiculous amounts of defense to reach 102.4% total miss rate. Remember we're talking about the receiving end of the damage in the combat table.

+Hit caps for player vs. mobs because mobs have a fixed % chance for us to miss them. Chance for a player to be missed by a mob does not cap and is not fixed.
