Mount runs - tips and tricks

Postby Seloei » Mon May 05, 2008 11:59 pm

A while ago i compiled a list of tips and tricks to help out our group to get closer to the 4. chest. A few of these i took from tankspot, a few from vid's and a few elsewhere.

- Go Eagle -> Bear -> DragonHawk -> Lynx

- After first entering and killing them, jump on grass and mount up

- Eagle Trash : have the priest ride in and MC the lookout, gives you a max possible 1 minute window of no hawks/warriors

- Eagle Trash : ride in, let the warrior/druid mark the windcallers to kill, ignore protectors and move up fast, tank the protectors/warriors yourself.

- Eagle Trash : don't let anyone stand back behind if they don't need to, they will get agro from warriors, ask them to move with the pala (marked with a sign)

- Eagle Trash : As soon as you can, let one tank grab the tempest even if he has 1 more mob on him for ranged to burn down. Less warriors from behind to burn later.

- Eagle Trash : after the tempest has been pulled, pop a fire elem totem to burn the melees.

- Eagle : Don't go very far from the platform but spread out. Even if you miss a storm warning then you can move fast to the person and it won't be a wipe.

- Eagle->Bear : Instead of killing the pat, mount up jump down the ledge from eagle(zig-zag) and ride near the stairs back to entrance and down the other way. Get close to the plat where the 3 are up there.

- Bear : If you have a druid (even if his resto) let him feral fire one of the 3 adds up there or ride fast close to them and toss a frisbee. They usually come down straight without going a circle.

- Bear trash, you can have your Druid use Soothe Beast on the first 2 bears and sneak by them.

- Bear : if you can amp magic the caster dps/tanks/healers and evocate. Still pull as soon as healers/tanks ready

- DragonHawk trash: Shadowpriest MCing the flame casters is good. Also, have the mage spellsteal their haste buff.

- DragonHawk trash: You can skip 2 patrols, if needed.

- DragonHawk trash: Everyone should assist in looking out for roaming scouts. Have your Warrior count down his charge/intercept, followed immediately by a Druid root and ranged DPS.

- DragonHawk boss: Pop a full side at a time, drop a earthbind or frost trap on the bridge. judge/as/taunt the first adds.

- Hawk -> Lynx : Jump up on the ledge to the left and kill the lynxes there, jump through the house and ride to the crocs.

- Lynx trash: You can ignore the 2 side groups before the boss area.

- Lynx trash: Sheep pull the flame caster or MC him, tank behind a corner and pull the pat when it passes.

- Lynx trash: You can skip 2 patrols, but it can be faster to kill the croc patrol if he's in a bad position.

- Lynx boss: Have your DPS make macros to target the totems. " /target Corrupted "

- Lynx boss: Have your off-tank make a macro to target the Spirit of the Lynx and taunt quickly. " /target Spirit of the Lynx "

- Lynx boss: Do not switch DPS to the Spirit of the Lynx, stay on the boss. Raid de-bebuffs (Curse of Shadows, Shadow Vulnerability, Imp Scorch, etc.) are already applied to the boss, so make use.

- Everyone flask, food buff, weapon oils, etc...before the event starts. Every little bit helps and makes the run go faster/smoother.

- Tanks should have macros/addons that mark targets quickly at the press of a button.

- After each boss kill, everyone (especially tanks and healers) need to mount up quickly and start setting up the next pull. Don't wait for the entire raid to show up, as soon as you have enough tanks/healers/dps to clear the amount of trash...go ahead and pull.

- Trash pats : If you have a rogue, you can try to distract them so the raid can get past. Losing one dps for ~10s vs killing a pat for 1 minute.

Quite sure i missed a few, any more added tips are welcome :)

About the saved trolls, I never know what's safe to leave behind after the boss is dead.

Talk to the saved troll and leave, get chest later.
Or just leave and talk to the saved troll later?

bosses stay for an hour on the ground, full mount run takes 45 minutes (max from start) and the saved people in their cages dont despawn.

We tried this last night, our first serious attempt (30s after timer ran out, last boss dropped >.<) and we left the bosses without looting them.
When we had failed we quickly looted the last boss, then ran off to loot boss #1, which had despawned (about 45-50min after kill), boos #2 as well, but we came in time for boss #3.
So.. don't try this if you actually want loot from them I guess. :p

Edit: Oh, thanks a lot for all the tips in first post as well, they helped a load. :D

However, for clarity's sake: People in cages do not despawn, so you can still get the chest loots if you leave those behind and come back. We do this every week with no issues. I am assuming you are only talking about the bosses themselves that despawn.

Unless you are paranoid or you are using some dkp sort of loot, it's more helpful to have group loot on in ZA. it resets so often and if you are already at the level of trying for a bear, everyone there should atleast know when/how to pass or not. Everyone to their own tho :)

And yeah, the caged ones stay for a long time, never waited to see how long.

oh err... forgot this... even on trash ask the dps to burn their trinkets/cooldowns. Trash dead faster is as good as a boss dead faster. Mana pots for casters on trash speeds it up also if you are already very very near to the box and are quite sure no mistakes will happen. Noone said the first bears wont be cheap :)

What we typically do is:

1. Group Loot
2. Everyone grabs their badges and go, leaving the caged dudes alone.
3. Roll need on the item if you want it, else pass.
4. The DE'er will roll greed on all items

Yeah, thanks Jere for noticing, it's only the bosses that despawn indeed.

We were talking about using Need/Greed the way Jere described it, we did indeed have group loot on and did like that on trash, but we were sure we would have a hard time beating the timer as it was, so we felt every second was important.
We're only 3/5 MH, 0/9 BT after having been stuck on Kael for a while since we decided to not skip him even when we could, that's why we decided to do like this.

Will probably just use group loot next time and skip badges, since the "That object is busy"-happy-fun-times easily could cost us enough seconds to make us fail.

Ah, so you used group loot not master loot with leaving loot behind? Thats why they despawned on you so fast. They stick to the ground with masterloot for an hour but with group loot (if everyone passed) for a lot less.
If your already using group loot, then the people who might need it don't auto pass and wait/ask in vent/teamspeak if they can need roll for offspec or mainspec or whatever.

You lose 3 badges that way but meh, are you there for the badges or something else :P

We used group loot to make it as fast as possible on trash, but we didn't even "open" the bosses, no one clicked them at all, we just left them and ran on.
As I said, we were slightly less than a minute short on the timer, having done basically all correctly as far as we can tell, so every second really is important to us. That's why we decided we didn't want to waste 5s even on any boss. :)

Some new things i've found out along the way.

Eagle : when it's time to collapse form a "box" around the tank and if you are getting hit by the storm, move closer to the person. Hard to tell but with flares you can mark the "Safe zone" easy.

Bear trash : Any damage done to the first 3 on the pack that runs down pulls them. Usually mount up and frisbee them is enough if your slow then have a dps who has an insta-cast do it. (hunters shine at that) or use the small downtime to drink.

Hawk trash : ALWAYS interupt/silence the flame casters and the second tank who can interupt should be on the second flame caster. If you have more than 1 hunter/shaman then assign the second one to purge/dispel the buff from the second flame caster.

hawk trash: sometimes it saves time by skipping the pat which goes up the stairs, sometimes it doesn't your call how far along the line he is. if you do skip him, tank the last 4 pack (2 flame caster+guardians) on the stairs to the boss, not where they stand so dps doesn't body pull the pat.

hawk : kill the first hatcher/side, wear some FR gear to make it ridi. easy. Burn the boss while you are picking up the adds then aoe down. Ignore the 2 new hatchers and just burn, if you have the dps to get the mount all birds will hatch around the time the 2 hatchers reach there and start spawning.

lynx trash : Alternatively to the window hop (which is quite complicated) you can kill or soothe the "elder lynx" on the right hand side, let the pat go past and go around the tree and kill the 2 trolls + lynxes there.

lynx trash : try to avoid the croc pat, swim around him the crocs there are untankable once they have a target assigned by the troll.

lynx : if you have a druid, tank both him + spirit on spirit phase and let him dps.

This doesn't aggro the small baby lynx in the pack?

That's an awesome tip, I didn't know that.

/target Spirit of the Lynx
/cast Righteous Defense

useful

(will that work, though? I get so confused about our taunt I've been using a macro for it forever)

play wack'a'judgement with the spirit. Just tab or spam the macro and slap a judgement on him, if he gets away, taunt, if he still goes away frisbee, if he is still not coming to you. Your SoL
