Need advice on which scrubby gear is better. :X

Hello, I am new here, and this is my first post. ^^;

So I am about mid-way in my gearing up process since I've hit 70. I've gotten some decently nice items so far with my group, but am at the point where I'm not sure what item is "more optimal" than another item. We are on the cusp of starting to do heroics.

I'm finally starting to understand that Blizzard, while they had good intentions, they did not itemize for our class very well. It seems like there are a number of items that offer superior STA + DEF, but then have a lot of STR as well, whereas items that have +Spell damage often have less STA and DEF.

So... if you folks could provide some insight as to which item is better than another...


Please assume:

- I have an "okay" spell damage sword (Summoner's Blade http://www.thottbot.com/i31002 )
- I am an enchanter who makes my own wizard oils
- socket items get rare gems and meta-gems (18 STA 5%stun resist)

So I guess a lot of it is about mitigation versus ... would I have too much spell damage if I took the bonafide "paladin' pieces? Seems like a waste to have so much +STR.

Should I go for avoidance over stamina?

My personal preferences, this is based on you doing 5 man dungeons with some possible heroics. You'll need a completely different set for karaz:

1) Helm of the Righteous - Great helm, can socket for more def/stam if needed

2) Gauntlets of the Chosen for heroics and Gauntlets of the Righteous for 5 mans

3) Jade Skull Breastplate hands down really, although my personal pref is the Righteous Chest. I even tank in kara with it.

4) Thalodien's Charm - block rating is great, I use this a LOT, i only break out my Strength of the Untamed for Uncrushable moments.

5) Legplates of the Righteous, 5 man for sure, I use Time Wardens for heroics/kara, but you could sub in Felsteel I suppose. You could even use Righteous for heroics if you can find the stam elsewhere.

2) Probably get the most use out of Felsteel gloves due to the sockets. Righteous for threat fights.
3) Jade-Skull
4) Strength of the Untamed
5) Felsteel until you get Time Warden's

However, you're a tank. Get used to having many pieces of gear in your bank.

I'd buy the fellsteel helm, its not that pricy, otherwise Myrmidons

For non-heroics use the righteous set for more threat.

Whilst running Steamvaults for the umpteenth time to get my Devilshark, I got a neck called the Steam Hinge Chain of Valor. I use it over Thalodien's. Strength of the Untamed for Kara.
