Threat on Curator

The only time I've ever eaten Hateful Bolts while tanking Curator was when a shadow priest with probably 8k health was above me on KTM after an Evocate. I most certainly had less current HP than she or anyone else near the top of the aggro list did, because I was being obliterated by the bolts+melee to continuously near (and eventual) death.

Does that mean you lost aggro?

Only reason I noticed anything strange was because the group I was with (I tend to go with all sorts of people to Kara on my Warlock) had an offtank wearing full AR who was eating all the bolts up until that point.
There *HAS* to be some aggro component to the hateful bolts. There's too much behavior similar to aggro gain/loss behavior to label as coincidence.

We always stuck with the strategy that it was like Patchwerk, it would go to the person with the highest HP at the top of his aggro list. Seems to have worked for us so far, the healers mostly concentrate on either a rogue or warrior. As long as they were fast keeping the "off-tank" topped off the bolts never went anywhere.

In my experience, the hateful bolts are aimed at the person on the threat table with the highest *current* HP, minus the person at the top of the threat table. We handle the bolts by having our warrior OT, decked out in AR gear, tanking the Curator the whole fight with me. As far as I know, the bolts have never landed anywhere else.
Our mages, warlock and rogues are going all out, blowing trinkets and amped up curse of dooms on the Curator during the evocate, and I still never have lost aggro.
I can't afford to spam consecrate the whole fight, so I only use it during evocates. Otherwise, I have JoW and SoR up, and I spam max rank holy shield. We usually down him just after the 3rd evocate.
Good luck out there.

1st off hi all..great site and community here
never been clear on how the arcane bolt targeting works so a cover both bases and drag an arcane res set along to curator, a bit over 300 res and a shed load of health tho cant remeber the exact figure. I off tank the boss from the start and juggle sor/jor and sow/jow between evocates depending on blue rage potion cooldown and throw everything at him during evocates. While im way behind the main tank on threat i manage to keep comfortably ahead of the dps while soaking every bolt and even manage to throw myself the odd heal. 1st time i tried this the MT crumpled at 19% (he was a bit gear challenged at time) and i ended up tanking last part with naff all dodge/parry/block/defense.../salute my healers
will try sov tonight , not huge fan of it but maybe its time to overcome my predjuces

I just looked at your armory and your first problem may actually lie in your tanking stats themselves.
- You have low spelldamage (would recommend at least 200), also use wizard oil on weapon (40 spell)
- Tanking stats need work (dodge/parry/block)
- Need more stam (could work on some of your rocks/gears)
I dunno, that's just me though, I see what you are trying to do with your gear but you can swap a few things in and out here and there and get huge improvement.
TBH use a tanking trinket rather than the 36 stam Violet eye trinket.
I would say your stats are fine, but your low dodge and low hp come as a suprise to me with your gear....it could be so much better.

OK, so warrior wasn't around this week and I was MTing with a druid OT.
Normally I keep wisdom judges on curator and drop low level consecrates near him, when the sparks come out I judge righteousness on them and keep them close to curator so my consecrates hit both targets (might as well maximize it's damage).
So this week I was tanking curator and I told him to only tank the sparks as well as he could. He wasn't hitting curator much at all, if any. He also wasn't soaking the bolts much, at all. Obviously he had a lot more health than everyone else (cat gear bear form). At any rate, we just healed through it w/o a problem...
So there is some threat factor.

I used SoV last night, and was able to squeak in above 10k threat over our Shadow Priest arcane OT (who DPSes Curator the entire time, only occasionally SW:Deathing the sparks), and by the end of the fight (3 min, 57 seconds, killed during second Evocate/Enrage) I had like a 150k lead on him. Something about judging a 4k stack with wings up makes it all worth it. :D

^_^ everyone says that...I've scaled things a little better, but I know what's going on and wouldn't have it any other way.
