A question about Omen
Hi!
What is the E-TPS that can be shown in Omen? Some ppl says that it means Estimated-TPS, but isn´t the "real" TPS also estimated, I mean, Omen can´t be sure on the TPS.

Re: A question about Omen
TPS can't be determined exactly because abilities generate threat in terms of instantaneous packets of threat over time, not a continuous generation of threat.
This means that in order to get a meaningful TPS figure, you have to use a moving total - displaying the total threat generated in a particular window of time and then divided by the length of that time, to get a TPS figure. Realistically, you should use the longest period you can (which is two seconds), but a lot of people chop it back to 0.1 seconds or something stupid like that.
This effect is why people sometimes quite stupidly high "average" TPS figures - it's because they are watching their TPS bounce wildly as they use their abilities, and they're looking at the peaks instead of using a more realistic average.
To clarify, let's say you have Omen set to 0.1 seconds as the sample length for the TPS field. You hit an ability that generates 1000 threat. In 0.1 seconds you generated 1000 threat - this means you generated 10k TPS, right?
Not really, but that's what a lot of people seem to think

considering this line:
It would seem to be an overall tps, for the fight, probably for threat wipes.
- Code: Select all
self:CreateColumn("fight_tps", L["E-TPS"], 10)
It would seem to be an overall tps, for the fight, probably for threat wipes.
