Any addon that provides a nameplate for the player?
Hi, all - a while back I gave Rift a try, and thought it had some neat features WoW should incorporate. One tiny feature really stood out to me, and that was that Rift has a nameplate/healthbar for the PLAYER. I was stunned at how much easier this made things, and was wondering if anybody was aware of any sort of addon that provided similar functionality in WoW?
I think it might be possible to accomplish something like this using a subset of PitBull, but it just doesn't feel the same. I use TidyPlates and love it, maybe I should try to bribe the author of TidyPlates to build something ...

Brekkie:Tanks are like shitty DPS. And healers are like REALLY distracted DPS
Amirya:Why yes, your penis is longer than his because you hit 30k dps in the first 10 seconds. But guess what? That raid boss has a dick bigger than your ego.
Flex:I don't make mistakes. I execute carefully planned strategic group wipes.

IIRC the default command to view friendly nameplates is Alt or Ctrl-V (with V alone being the toggle for enemy nameplates.) You should be able to check in the keybinds section for it (and assign your own toggle.)

I'm pretty sure he's asking for a nameplate for the player character, not friendly characters. I deduced this from his use of "PLAYER".
I've never seen a WoW addon which does that, and googling suggests that the OP has received a similar answer over on WoWInterface.

Yep, appears I'll have to build it with Pitbull. Thanks for the consideration, all!

What are you trying to get out of the player nameplate?
You know where your character is (I hope) as your view point is centered on them. Targeting yourself shouldn't be an issue, I wouldn't think.
If you're just looking to have character info displayed near your character instead of or in addition to the normal UI, you could check out one of the HUD addons. I use Icehud - fairly customizable, and keeps my character info (health, mana, etc) in the center of the screen where I can reference it easily.

Re: Any addon that provides a nameplate for the player?
I played Rift for a while, and that game just had this little, unobtrusive set of bars that appear over your character's head when you're in combat. I know it duplicates information on the player frame, but I find lately that I spend a great deal of time looking at enemy nameplates (ThreatPlates!) instead of unit frames, so I did away with moving the Player/Target frames down near my character and have reverted to using the standard Blizzard nameplates.
So I found that all I was ever checking my unit frames for was my own health/mana. I was hoping there was a mod out there that duplicated the Rift style, but I just cobbled it together in PitBull. Very simple, very useful. I highly recommend it!

i use an addon called Tidy Plates and i find it makes things much nicer. Finding a specific target in an aoe situation is sooooo much easier now just click the name plate. shows your debuffs as well amny nice options.

Try looking up HUDs if this is still an issue. Some I know have the config to be horizontal like in Rift.
