Yeah, I installed it back when we hit 80 since dual spec didn't update everything... and I keep it installed because it's hilarious to watch it spam the shit out of everyone. I have a LOT of hunters that don't use their L80 skills, and a DK that was using rank 1 Plague Strike. And a Nika that was using rank bad player Consecrate.

I have this installed as well, but after a while I disabled it wispering other people - Wintergrasp on my server is dead as far as alliance go, typically a single alliance (no joke) vs 60+ horde, around their graveyard. It goes mad in that setting ..

but yes alliance had capped WG more then twice teh times horde had defended

i have it turned to only show me the message not to /w people. and i love how when you level it tells you what new spells/ranks you get

One of the best features of the addon is when you ding it'll tell you what ranks of what spells can you learn at that new level

I was under the impression that it was no longer possible to use down ranked spells. Is the change just that the mana cost is the same regardless if your using rank 1 consecrate vs. max rank? I remember back in BC I would use rank 1 for finding my rogue friend during duels, then there was a change and it no longer worked to use rank 1 or at least wasn't efficient.

You've been misinformed, I'll clear it up for you.

There are still multiple ranks of spells and you still have to go train the new ones, you can always use any ranked spell, however:

Using an lower ranked spell after the changes bliz made back in TBC to remove the practice of downranking now suffers from the following drawbacks: It costs the same mana as the max rank, it suffers from less scaling than the highest available(to you) rank.
The net effect being that a lower ranked spell will always be weaker in effect* and cost the same as max rank.

Downranking is bad(see footnote).







*There are a few practical exceptions like warlocks using rank 1 lifetap before a fight to get their glyph buff up.

Of note that in Cataclysm there will no longer be multiple ranks and we finally won't need to worry about rank sillyness anymore. (This should have been done back when they nerfed downranking, there's no point in having multiple ranks if downranking is not intended)

Pugged an ICC25 on my warlock this weekend and saw two rank 5 rebirths on the same attempt of Festergut. Max rank is, of course, 7. I thought this was hilarious.
