MT Group Composition, Paladin Style
For a warrior, what we generally try to arrange is:
Prot Warrior (MT, Commanding Shout)
Affliction Warlock (Blood Pact, Aff. since they perform best without group support)
Tree Druid (aura)
Holy Paladin (Imp Devo) or Prot Paladin
and on some fights Resto Shaman or Feral Druid or a second tank of some kind.
What do you use for your warrior MT group, and how do you see our needs differing from a warrior's for an ideal MT grouping? Obviously, we benefit from different non-HP buffs than they do.

Total waste. The heals cover mana fine and you're better off feeding the mages.
My group when I tank:
Warrior to provide Commanding Shout
Shaman for totem support
Aff lock for Imp
Me
Holy Paladin for Devo
Arthas, we're coming for you. (Eventually)

My 'Optimal' group with me MT
Me, Tanking
Shadow Priest
Resto Shaman or Druid
Aff warlock
Rogue
I like having a rogue for stuns, and the others for my healing preferences and crazy +stamina.
Anyone else abhor mages? Whenever I get a mage for non-heroics they just annoy me to no end. Sure, they have good aoe, but they either are too timid to aoe actively, too aoe-crazy and die, or do stupid crap like frost nova mobs next to the healer after I've taunted. Or in front of/surrounding me so I can be hit from behind, or the mobs turn on melee dps. Or they actually use polymorph in non-heroics with a pally tank and strong healer. Or... Enough. I only group with pug mages willingly because they give me free water now.

That's close to being the most suboptimal group setup lol. unless you are talking about a 5man.. Then don't mind me.
1) No warrior, you are not getting Commanding Shout.
2) Shadow preist? he's better used elsewhere, like with mages...
3) Rogue? he should be with a shaman and a dps warrior...
For a MT pally group i'd go with:
Prot Paladin
Warrior
Aff Lock
ToL Druid
Shaman
However, depending on the number of shamans you have, it's better to have them give WF to warrior and rogues.

Tree Aura is seriously overrated. I mean -seriously-. Getting an extra 1% of overall mitigation is far more valuable across a 9+ minute fight then an extra 50-60 +heal bonus. That kind of thing is best spent on the DPS for the HoTs while the real healing is being poured on you.
Guys, stop thinking like you did when you first became tankadins and were in all blues. Shadow Priests are best served giving your mages and healers the ammo to keep shooting.

Yeah, mine do too, I was referring to the effective net return, not the +heal bonus.
I still personally prefer the imp devo returns over the extra heal. Given the choice between mitigation and increased healing, unless the +heal is an incredible return, I will always prefer the mitigation.

Er, they're not mutually exclusive. My group usually looks like this:
Prot Warrior
Resto Shaman
Resto Druid
Affliction Lock
MEEEEEEEEE
I use devo aura, warrior gives me commanding shout, shaman drops totems, druid gives me tree buffs, lock gives me blood pact. Plus, then the warrior's getting all of that too.

My MT group consists of:
Prot pally
Warrior
Warlock
Shaman
Shadow priest
As for imp devo aura pally or ToL druid vs. shadow priest then the steady flow of healing from the shadow priest is vastly superior to what either of those offer imo, and that's w/o counting the mana you also get.

I like:
Me
Shadow Priest
Mage / warlock
Mage / warlock
Any healer.
Two CCs that are compatible with Avenger's Shield pull, shadow priest gives extra mana for tanking and refuels the other DPS too.The different healer types are basically a push - shammy has totems, priest has bubbles, druid can't be DIed if we overpull but he can do a combatrez on me to save a wipe if I die first.
Rogues are all well and good, but they make pulling tougher. I imagine a warrior could work OK if played well, but I've yet to see that happen - the temptation to to raise that red bar seems to be too great for most of them.

don't have a warrior MT group sadly.
My MT group looks like this
Prot Paladin <- me
Warlock <- Imp
and then some combination of these depending on who's in the group and encounter:
Holy Paladin <- Imp Devo
Resto/Elemental Shaman <- wrath of air/grace of air, stoneskin, etc.
Fury/Arms Warrior <- commanding shout
Shadow Priest <- mana

I would think the best group setup would look like:
pally tank (devo aura)
warrior commanding shout
warlock imp
druid tree aura
ret paladin sanctity aura
now, ret pallies are extremely rare, but imp sanctified judgement of the crusader would rock, as would not having to put it on myself, aiding in my frontloading of threat. Also, I don't know if it still works, but I could start a vengance stack and he could keep it up with all the threat attributed to me.
10% more holy damage is still going to be the biggest increase to threat you can get.
other option for optimal person in last slot would probably be shaman for wrath of air and whatnot.

If you invest all of your talents, all of your gear, all of your knowledge and skill into tanking, you should be the best tank.
