Did he? That would explain why we didn't test it (shame on us, though!).

If you could dig up a link to that post, I'd appreciate it. Once we have enough data to be convinced of this, I might write a short blog post to spread the word.

My bad... What he gave us was the value for the armor for the dummies

Also

It continues on to level 93. Just to clarify to make sure there are no misunderstandings, adding denotation for which variables are of the target and which are of the attacker:
DamageReduction = TargetArmor / (TargetArmor + 4037.5*AttackerLevel – 317117.5).

Putting in 57030 for TargetArmor, 90 for AttackerLevel gives 55,2148130...% damage reduction, so at least that expression appears to be correct.

Code: Select all
f(x) = 100*x/(x+K)

Could you remind me what f(x) and x are standing in for in this expression?

Exactly what Klaud posted - x is the target's armor, K is the associated (and level-dependent) armor constant. And the formula he posted is exactly what I'm using. However, it's clear to me now what's going on: the character sheet is giving armor reduction against a level 90, whereas we care about armor reduction against a level 93. I was just too tired to realize that last night.

It would be awfully nice if the armor tooltip gave mitigation percentages against various levels of attacker, much like it does for hit/exp.

So that means the theoretical armor cap against level 93 attackers then lies at 175110?

filtered link 1: 11725-12412 with SoI
filtered link 2: 11168-11822 with SoT

Ratio is 1.0499, or almost exactly 1.05. Thus, the 4-piece is multiplicative with SoI, as expected.

Working on the PTR... EF didnt just get a 100% buff to the tick, but also to the base heal, scaling much faster from AP.

EDIT:
Well... I'm a retard... I did the EF tests with SoI on... so disregard the part about EF getting a slight buff to the base heal...

Cons still feels like crap, even with the buff...

Code: Select all
General model:
     f(x) = b+a*x
Coefficients (with 95% confidence bounds):
       a =        0.08  (0.07995, 0.08004)

EF data has a bug. First five data points and last three data points aren't continuous. The last three are about 10% higher than they should be

Fitting the first 5:
Code: Select all
General model:
     f(x) = b+a*x
Coefficients (with 95% confidence bounds):
       a =     0.05855  (0.05849, 0.05862)
       b =        1016  (1015, 1016)

Goodness of fit:
  SSE: 0.1003
  R-square: 1
  Adjusted R-square: 1
  RMSE: 0.1828

Fitting the last three with
Code: Select all
General model:
     f(x) = (b+a*x)*1.1
Coefficients (with 95% confidence bounds):
       a =     0.05848  (0.05813, 0.05883)
       b =        1016  (1010, 1023)

Goodness of fit:
  SSE: 0.01616
  R-square: 1
  Adjusted R-square: 1
  RMSE: 0.1271

The current formula is (508+0.0585*SP), so doubling it would give (1016+0.0585*AP), consistent with both of those fits.

I was fitting against AP. It's 0.08*AP, so it'll be 0.16*SP.

For some reason I have most of the healing spells coded according to SP scaling in the MATLAB code, probably because that's the native scaling given on the tooltips.

Log for test #50. Agwyne dueling me with a Club, attacking from behind while I wail on a dummy. Filtered log is slightly more useful

Sequence #1:
Code: Select all
[17:41:34.543] Agwyne hits Theck 681
[17:41:35.214] Theck gains Jade Warlord Figurine from Theck
[17:41:36.405] Agwyne hits Theck 682
[17:41:38.210] Agwyne hits Theck 681
[17:41:39.974] Agwyne hits Theck Absorb (681)

SotR's mitigation preserved the "extra" mastery from the trinket even after the trinket effect fell off (with no trinket active, SotR drops the damage to 407, see below).

Sequence #2:
Code: Select all
[17:43:50.799] Agwyne hits Theck Absorb (681)
[17:43:51.346] Theck gains Shield of the Righteous from Theck

[17:44:12.372] Agwyne hits Theck Absorb (407)
[17:44:14.163] Agwyne hits Theck Absorb (408)
[17:44:15.351] Theck's Jade Warlord Figurine fades from Theck
[17:44:15.851] Agwyne hits Theck Absorb (407)
[17:44:17.737] Agwyne hits Theck Absorb (407)
[17:44:19.475] Agwyne hits Theck Absorb (408)
[17:44:21.312] Agwyne hits Theck Absorb (407)
[17:44:23.101] Agwyne hits Theck Absorb (407)
[17:44:24.353] Theck's Shield of the Righteous fades from Theck
[17:44:24.889] Agwyne hits Theck Absorb (681)

In this case, the trinket had no effect on SotR's mitigation because it was used during an existing SotR buff.

Conclusion is that refreshing the SotR buff does not recalculate mitigation percentage, thus it's in our best interest to stack mastery effects (trinkets, potions, etc) before casting our first SotR of a Holy Avenger to benefit from the increased mitigation (i.e. macro trinkets to your HA keybind, for example).

could have told you that before tested this a couple od month ago only by watching the SoTR buff :)

it's a bit tricky that it acts that way. means we have to start building up this "Cooldown" a couple of GCD before the damage hits us.

but its great for combination with heroism/lust haste trinkets when you know in advance when it comes. Meaning using the mastery trinket way before and using the first SoTR with only a couple seconds left on the mastery gain, keeping it up for > 30 seconds and having the benefit of it. getting the most gain out of a mastery effect.

what I'm more curious about does Bastion of Glory works the same?

Had to go pummel a target dummy at the end so that the log was long enough to upload.

yep i know, that is why it's nice to see it confirmed here. (allthough I saw that there was no difference in the hits received while using the trinket during a bossfight with HA and SOTR up)

Updating for a few tests that I've run recently

Consecration
Consecration obeys standard DoT mechanics, but with a fixed tick interval. If re-cast while there are still several ticks remaining, it only preserves the current one.

In this first log, I just cast Cons once under heroism to confirm that the tick spacing is fixed at 1 second, even under heroism. This was performed with 19.92% spell haste +heroism for a total of 55.90% spell haste.

Code: Select all

Under the same conditions, I cast Consecration and refreshed it as soon as the spell cooldown would allow (~6 second cooldown in this case):

6 ticks before the second cast, but only 10 ticks following it.

Light's Hammer
LH is definitely affected by the AoE target cap. Damage per mob was reduced for a group of 18 mobs. Reduced damage observed was appropriate for our understanding of damage cap mechanics (damage_per_mob=(base damage)*cap/number_of_mobs = (base damage)*10/18 in this case).
