is it possible to tank hyjal trash as retribution with a tank gear or they hit too hard for some1 without talents in prot?

Ardent Defender comes in handy plenty often, but I suppose it could be done. You'd need some pretty good gear for the later bosses though.

If you're just tanking ghouls and cryptfiends, you can easily do it as any spec, AD only becomes really valuable if you're tanking all of the above + aboms
