Gear check

Postby Eloff » Fri Apr 20, 2007 6:06 pm

No, don't bother checking out my profile or gear. I've got a decent idea of where I need to go. However, I have a nagging question about pushing crush off the table.

Here's the way I think it works, please let me know if I am off on my math:

Goal: 102.4% from block + avoidance.

Of this, a naked paladin holding a statless sword / shield would start out with:
5% chance to be missed.
5% chance to dodge.
5% chance to parry.
5% chance to block.

Taking the parry talent adds:
5% better chance to parry.
Taking Anticipation 5/5 adds:
A defense rating equivalent bonus of 48. This would add 3.2% to push crushing blows off the table.
Casting holy shield adds 30% to block.

So a stat-less paladin would start out with 58.2% block + avoidance.

Therefore, the total bonus from gear selection and gems needed to push crush off the table would be 44.2%. (Based on the adding the values in my spreadsheet for each item.)

Now, assuming the above data is correct, then the following becomes possible...

44.2% can be exceeded from only the following gear:
Faceguard of Determination (assuming this comes out next patch as a heroic badge turn-in helm. There's also some engineering goggles that are close to as good for avoiding crush.)
Panzar'Thar Breastplate
Crimson Girdle of the Indomitable
Styleen's Impeding Scarab
Figurine of the Colossus
Andormu's Tear
Flask of Fortification (or you could wear Elementium Band of the Sentry instead)
Glyph of the Defender enchant helm
Enchant Shield - Shield Block (could choose devilshark cape instead)
Greater Inscription of the Knight (Scryer) (or the aldor one)
Enchant Bracer - Major Defense
Enchant Cloak - Dodge
Clefthide Leg Armor
Libram of Repentance

If you do it right, you could wear anything you want on the following 'open' slots:
Legs, shield, one ring, back, neck, wrist, and hands! Might even be worth it to wear a green 'of stamina' neck and ring to help really stack up the stamina.

Ok, I figured it out myself.

As a 'human' paladin, my naked stats w/talent improvements are:
10.8 parry
4.53 dodge
5.8 miss
5.8 block
30 holy shield

Total = 56.93

This leaves a gap of 45.47 that needs to be made up in gear selection.

Are you using the "gemmed" value for these or is this their "ungemmed" value? I'm guessing this is the gemmed with +8 Defense value.

Now all I need to do is figure out what to use instead of:
Styleen's Impeding Scarab
Figurine of the Colossus
Andormu's Tear
Flask of Fortification
Enchant Bracer - Major Defense
