Over-capped defense equals ???

Postby larathus » Sun Jul 05, 2009 10:34 am

Currently I am sitting at 552 defense. I realize I am over-capped from the 540. However most of enchants and gems are stam based so dropping the 552 will not happen until I get better gear. My question is this. What does the extra 12 defense give me in terms of block- parry etc. I have had alot of people tell me anything after 540 is useless while some board Faq's say you cannot have too much defense.

Also is there a macro that will tell me wether I am block capped?

Thanks for the input.

even beyond the cap, defense is still a good avoidance stat. It is better than parry and block at least.

you can't calculate how much avoidance you are getting without knowing what your diminishing returns are at. Before DR it is 0.04 avoidance to every avoidance stat (miss/dodge/parry/block) per point of defense skill.

yes there is a macro to tell you how close you are to block cap; you should be able to find it in the macro forum.

It's not a Defense "cap", it's a Defense MINIMUM.

To complete the equation in the thread topic:

Over-capped defense equals win.

Over-minimum defense also means it's easier to swap gear around if needed.

This should probably be in basic.

Even after crit immunity, defense is still:

The 2nd best stat to reach block capping (after block rating)

The 2nd best stat for avoidance (after dodge)

So yes, defense remains win. Unless you can drop the defense enchant and still remain block capped, I suggest keeping the defense enchant.

Over-capped defense equals angsty mods editing your post.
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

Most of your questions are easily resolved by checking stickies or using the search function. The remaining ones would be better off in the "Gear Questions and Advice" forum, not Advanced Training.

Also, there's no such thing as a defense cap.
