Weapon speed matters again for tps?

Postby vexryn » Wed Jun 24, 2009 8:57 am

With the new SoV mechanic adding +33% weapon damage with five stacks up, does this mean that weapon speed will matter once again for prot pally tps?

From the tooltips so far, it doesn't seem clear to me whether it will be 33% of weapon dps (like HotR), or whether it will actually be 33% of the weapon base damage itself.

If it's the latter, I guess for tps we're going to have to go hunting for some slower 1H tank weapons again? Any thoughts on this from the theorycrafting gurus?

It should only matter for Reckoning, since the bonus damage is applied at the same rate as your swing speed.

Ahh, good point.

And I guess for most fights of reasonable duration, the time to get SoV up to 5 stacks for the extra weapon damage proc isn't likely material enough to want a faster weapon just to get 5 stacks up faster...

It probably means you have to be careful on a few bosses that get kited not to refresh your stacks before they fall off if the tps on the fight matters (e.g., perhaps Vezax if you're still actually using a kiting strategy).

Matters for us a little for non reckoning specs through HotR but the differences will be relatively minor.
