So now that theres stam/agl purple gems again....

Postby Squishums » Sun Apr 19, 2009 2:22 am

Now that theres "shifting" stam/agl gems again, how do they measure up as a choice to go in your red sockets?

To be more precise, how much less dodge does agility give than raw dodge rating? and how much does threat benefit from the tiny amount of crit on agl? (both of which assuming you have kings on)

Last time I made an estimate it wasn't even close. Dodge wins.

I estimated it with kings, and without DR, asuming they both suffer the same DR. Not sure though.

In terms of defensive ilvl, agility actually wins due to the armor and that doesn't even take into account the threat from crit. All up to you though.

Agi looks like a clear winner there tbh.

Your numbers are all off.

First of all our crit and dodge from agility scale the same. It's 2 armor for each point of agility, not 1 armor for 2 agility. And finally you don't show enough sig figs, 4.

With kings, every point of agility is worth .8324 point of dodge rating for avoidance only. Every point of agility also gives 2.2 armor which is worth .1571 ipoints. This comes to a total of .9895 ipoints for every point of agility compared to 1 for dodge. Now I had previously used a bad dodge:dodge rating conversion ratio or 39.85 rather than 39.35 which gave agility a slight advantage. Now it's only a slight disadvantage survival wise with a threat bonus.

i went by what rating buster is showing and its showing 8 dodge is .19% and 8 agi is now showing .11% so HMMMMMM big difference once i socketed it QQ
so armor is 17.6 instead of 4.

After switching to Agi/stam gems from Dodge/stam in two slots:

I gained:
.31% crit
32 Armor

I lost:
.07% dodge

Overall a good change, I'd say. Lose a tiny bit of avoidance for some gains in other places that I really rather like.

Certainly not a significant difference though in any area.

Sorry to interject with a slightly off topic question about gems... but did a pure dodge gem get added in 3.1? I didn't see it at the vendor yesterday.

Yep, 16 dodge ruby. It's at the end of the list of designs, with the agi/stam one.

For some people, not all. It's a minor difference and a personal choice.

In 100% of sensible gear selections, Dodge rating > Agi for defensive purposes.

if you have something absurd like 40% dodge chance, 5% parry, 5% miss then Agi can win out, but not in any realistic situation.

(This is because dodge% scales in effectiveness with your avoidance, but scales inversely with your current dodge% due to DR. The armour contribution is pretty much static.)

The crit is nice though for threat.
