General Strat
Since most strategies here seem to be pretty specific, dealing with bosses and the like, I thought I'd post a really general one which didn't let me down yet:
Kill the mobs while not getting killed yourself.
Works every time if everyone just adheres to it!

The fight for the captain obvious hat has not ceded yet. Other helpful general strats:
- bring reagents
- bring food & drink
- having two people at the meeting stone vastly facilitates teleporting people to start an instance
- carry ammunition, not because you can use it but because you will run into a hunter who forgot it
- repair
- sell grey items to vendors for money
- exchange money for goods and services
- roll high on your loot rolls, I do not understand why so many people choose to roll below the required number to win an item
- generally, roll higher on items where you select need instead of greed
