Cross-realm zones announced

All I thought when I saw this on mmo-champion was "So which zone will be declared the unofficial world PvP zone?"

That does bring up the question of if they're going to "merge" PvP and PvE realms...

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about this. It won't help the problems of low population realms (being difficult to recruit, PuG, economy being dead) while removing the tiny perk of being on one (no competition when farming, leveling, camping rares, etc.)

Will you actually be able to do cross-realm progression raids? By that I'm assuming you mean the most recent raid released (currently DS.)

I can't see this happening any time soon, it would work against the purpose of having raiding guilds. It would also remove the need for people to transfer server, which is a lot of money for Blizzard.

If you mean:

We will be keeping a close eye on the impact of area sharing and should an area become too populated, we are capable of adjusting how many realms are able to connect to a shared area.

That won't necessarily help with crowded launch day zones unless they're planning to be able to split single servers into multiples.

Yes, they did say they can do *exactly* that. They can make multiple to one, or one to multiple, they said.

They are doing so on the beta, since there's only 3 or 4 realms anyway, but, someone asked about RP realms being merged with others, and they were told the plan is to merge like realm types and not mix them all up for live use of the technology.
