Gems, Enchants and Professions (MoP)

Postby lythac » Mon Apr 16, 2012 8:50 am

I mainly wanted to make a post for the profession perks, but changes made to gems means I had to include them as well. Thought I might as well throw in enchants.

I had wanted to flesh the posts out a bit before posting them but time has run away from me and won't be able to do anymore work on it today so it is here for people to look over and post corrections, extra info and other stuff. Pretty sure the professions stat gains is correct as far as it can be, which is the main point of this thread.

Gems

Big change in gems - Secondary stats have been doubled. Socket bonuses become more appealing and hopefully demand for pure red gems will decrease.

Perfect gems are to itemised the same as rare quality gems and rarity has been upgraded from uncommon to rare. Actually gives them a use now and should increase supply of decent quality gems very early in MoP.

Code: Select all
Mop P  MoP S  Ratio      Cata  WotLK  TBC  Ratio
Epic                                 50     20   10    5/4
Rare        160    320    1/1        40     16    8    1/1
Perfect     160    320    1/1        35     14         7/8
Uncommon    120    240    3/4        30     12    6    3/4
Mop P and S are MoP Primary and Secondary

Rare and Epic gems not in game yet.

Professions

Currently only have the stat gain listed for professions. Alchemy has a trinket. Eng its goggles etc. No idea what Tailoring has.

Mining

480 Stamina (Toughness)

Jewelcrafting

480 Stamina (2*480 - 2*240)
320 Secondary (2*480 - 2*320)
320 Primary (2*320 - 2*160)

JC gems are now "Unique-Equipped: Jeweler's Facet (2)" (down from 3). If in MoP JC gems do not get upgraded with the introduction of epic gems it means the profession is hit less.

Strength Perfect Cut tooltip currently incorrect (should be 160), using agi in example for now.

Enchanting

480 Stamina (2*240)
320 Primary (2*160)

Tooltip for Stamina ring enchant currently incorrect - "Enchant Item: +240 Stamina (4361)"

Currently ring enchants cost 2 dust \o/

Blacksmithing

480 Stamina (2*240)
640 Secondary (2*320)
320 Primary (2*160)

Socket Bracer (and gloves) now comes in two ranks - Socket Bracer/Socket Bracer (Rank 2). Expect something unique to Rank 2 that reduces the level of secondary stats gained or restricts it to Primary stats (including Stamina).

Alchemy

Mixology

Shouldn't be too hard to guess at Stamina and Primary gains. Elixers harder to figure out.

Leatherworking

750 Stamina (750) at a loss of 170 Mastery or Dodge.
330 Primary (500 - 170)

Slightly higher than other professions currently, bracer enchants might get boosted up to +180 (Current options for bracers are +170 Mastery/Dodge/Strength/Intellect). So far no Stamina enchant for wrist which may be by design, which gives it a massive lead in sta over other professions at the loss of other stats.

Inscription

??? Stamina (735-Rep Enchant)
??? Primary (490-Rep Enchant)

Likey rep enchants will grant 255 sta and 170 Primary stat giving -

480 Stamina (735 - 255)
320 Primary (490 - 170)

Secondary stat on enchants currently incorrect, doesn't matter as they will match the exalted rep ones in both stat and value.

Engineering

Skinning

320 Critical (Master of Anatomy)

Tailoring

Herbalism

320 Haste (average), 1920 Haste for 20 secs (2 min CD) (Lifeblood)

Expect something unique to Rank 2 that reduces the level of secondary stats gained or restricts it to Primary stats (including Stamina).

I think it is more likely to just be a way to force people to level their blacksmithing beyond 400 to continue to be allowed to profit from the profession bonus.

Indeed - look at the tooltip for rank 1. 550 skill is required if you want to add sockets to items higher than item level 416. Simple enough.

Also there will be no reputation enchants. Inscription will provide BoE shoulder enchants.

Yeah, gemming and reforging is going to get turned on it's head a bit. Gonna need to do some math on choosing secondary stat gems now.

It seems that leatherworking and blacksmithing are still the best choice for tanks. I'm also wondering whether Drums of Speed still works in MoP, as it has been really convenient in some encounters in Cataclysm.

I'm a little disappointed in the new alchemy trinket. Though I guess the Cataclysm one was a little too good.

The impact in the AH is probably going to be downward pressure on gem prices. JCers might get shafted this time around.

I guess it's too much to hope that they'll upgrade that trinket with later tiers, right?

They've had it pretty good for three expansions in a row, so I'll shed a tiny tear for them :p
