The login servers will get hammered regardless. The majority of WoW players don't look at the forums/blogs/fansites/tweets/facebook page - they just log in and play, and they'll all be waiting to log in a midnight.

Re: Mists of Pandaria
I have absolutely no doubt that the log in servers will fall down and i suspect the servers will probably also.
On a might positive light
How does rep work for Mists, can you get tabards or do you have to do dailies
Which rep vendors are the most interesting for tankadins?

And for which rep: all of them, they have diffrent slots of gear, and gfor all classes/specs (though I did read something on o some spec not having specific gear).
This is the JP gear ofc, as the VP is blocked for a little while (due to having to earn vp first)

The Klaxxi and the Golden Lotus are the two that can give you gear at the start of the grind, so best focus on them. You need to get Golden Lotus to revered to unlock two other factions that give gear - August Celestials and Shado-Pan. (I am very interested in Klaxxi as they sell Blacksmithing recipes). There are other factions, but they don't give gear, so are more optional.
I am wondering about converting jps into honour. The pvp gear looks rather good in comparison - 464 and none of the budget spent on pvp stats (they provided are off budget). The helm in particular looks useful - first available with a meta, but also there's a decent cloak and ring, plus even a passable belt now haste is ok for us.
There's a very nice video guide on how to gear up posted on tankspot.

Another thing... LFR.
After getting my new spriest to 85, and getting in LFR, I've suddenly realized that with the new loot system, they have effectively removed LFR as a efficient gearing option. At a ~5% rate of winning gear, it's simply not effective, especially for T14, given that there will be valor gear that's a bit higher ilvl anyway. and good luck if you want a tier set from LFR for tmog (as I do on the priest), it's going to be worse than running normal raids for tokens.

Gear from rep sources should be completely optional for players that do dungeons and raiding.
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

Why?
Choosing to do it because it exists isn't a valid answer.

No, they are gating VP gear behind rep sources now - you need revered with a faction to spend your VPs. As before, VP gear is equal to raid drops, so you will use it to fill out slots you have not been lucky with drops for.

unless you are INSANELY lucky with drops and loot rolls, you will have slots that need filled in order to be ready to raid
a smart player will do dailies just in case, while a not so smart one will rely on purely loot drops

Ironically the honor armor is quite decent for PvE (1 item level higher than heroic 5 man gear, some more sockets).
