I think I need a new income source. There are too many unfriendly gangs roaming through my ratting haunts these days.

This and system being full at times is the primary reason I moved operations to Amarr relatively quickly after starting playing. Also, Passionario, if you're looking for a decent income source that's low maintenance, Planetary Interaction has been treating me well so far. It took a long time to figure out where to set up at and nail down the details of having a functional colony, but after that, straight money print.

I've dabbled in PI at one point, but it involved too much clicking and relogging for my tastes, and the profits (after the 15% tax and shipping the stuff to Jita) weren't all that impressive. Besides, the interceptor gangs are just as happy to kill an Epithal as an Ishtar.

On the one hand, I respect CODE for the way they(Or t least their site) roleplays.

On the other, I just wanna roam and countergank the fuck out of these bastards.

I agree that it's time consuming (about 2hrs a day to keep my 5 planets stocked with mats for P3 production), and the margins aren't great in high sec (about 9mm a day), but it fits with my available play time and I run Iranian centrifuges, which is hilarious.

For me, I spent a legitimate amount of time researching what sells in Amarr (Jita is way too crazy to be bothered with and the prices aren't too off). The most time investment was in doing the scans of the planets and flying to them to see what kind of tax rate I would have to pay at the customs office. I made a lot of choices on where to set up shop based on that last point. I can't express enough how important Customs Code Expertise is! Basically (at lvl4) I don't bother with anything over 11% at the very worst.

On where to look for planets in high sec, I'd say being 10+ jumps from you hub of choice is clutch. The less traffic in system tends to mean lower CO tax rates and less competition for prime planets.

All in all tho, it's just different strokes for different folks. I'm really just killing time on this high sec gig until I can get my cruiser skills to lvl 3 and head on out to the low-sec for some hawt manufacturing action.

In my case, the combination of 15% corporate tax rate and all available planets being permanently near-depleted means that the only viable PI setup is extracting P2s (mostly Enriched Uranium). As for Jita being the sales hub of choice, that's where all our jump freighter services go to.

Find a wormhole with a highsec static and do PI in there. They're the best planets. You just have to be a bit sneakier on getting your export out.

If you are looking for more ISK I do suggest trading as a nice source of safe income. If you are station trading you will never have to undock your trade character. If you do inter-regional trading between hubs you can use 3rd party hauling such as Red Frog Freight, Push-X or public courier contracts. I started up my own inter-regional trading route about 4 weeks ago and turned a 500 mil initial investment into 4bil in assets for sale. The total time I spend on my trade ops is less than an hour a day and mostly taken up by the fact that I do my own hauling most of the time. I tend to use public contracts to do my hauling if I happen to have a load over 1 billion ISK to move.

Fly Safe!

Anyone around here still play? Reactivated my account a few weeks ago and I'm giving the game another shot.

Joined up with an amarr faction warfare corp and am trying to figure out how PVP works, one lost ship at a time.

It's fun though.

I've considered EVE a lot of times, but the idea of being able to lose literally everything randomly overnight in any moment kinda... sets me off from picking it up :\

Eh, that's not really possible unless you're flying a ship that you can't afford to replace, which is a big nono.

You used to lose skill points (roughly equivalent to EXP in wow) when you died, but they removed that feature sometime last year.

I'm still playing, pretty casually though. My goal is to earn enough money to pay for 5 years of game time.

I quit somewhere around... Odyssey or Rubicon, I think? The last thing I remember was CFC hellcamping some N3 station for a week, which was supposed to be a big deal for some reason.

Maybe I'll come back one day. I'm much better with spreadsheets now, at least.

So I'm trying this again.

I made my char named Worldie Feard as usual.

The game is very overwhelming right now, everything is so enormous

Wait? there was a thread for this?

So I'm about a month and too many skill injectors in, lol

But it's holding my attention a lot better than WoW.

Or you could come back to the game to find that your alliance got evicted and all assets and characters you used to have are now locked deep in enemy held regions. :(

Ouch. Still got your ISK though. Maybe you can join the other side long enough to get some stuff out of that station.

It's easy to get your characters out. Set your home station to your beginner station, suicide, and rez there. But, before you do that, if the other corp won't let you in, login, insure your ship, and undock, get podded, and revive back at that beginner station. At least you'll get something out of it.

If you can undock, but can't get out through the gatecamps, then go through wormholes until you find a path to highsec.

Thank you, but I don't think that would work out well. Firstly, my somewhat problematic corp history means that the other side (or, indeed, most groups) might be less than amenable to taking me on board, and secondly, that move would land all of my and my wife's characters on my current side's blacklist. It's not a nice list and one that is pretty much impossible to get off. As much as I'd love to recover my dreadnaughts and Tengus, I'm not quite prepared to pay that kind of price.

I think I'll just bide my time, play some other characters (and other games) and see if that region gets retaken in a year or two.

The other choice is to go vampire with extractors, suck the SP from some, to boost the characters you're going to play. Or heck, sell the characters..

Discovered there's a full on protection racket in EVE that preys on highsec miners...

Slickrock Wildlight in game. However, we're not exactly in the same time zones... :(

https://www.reddit.com/r/evenewbies/ is good.

Do the career agent missions (f12 in game)

Also you can ask a lot of questions in the rookie chat.
