Gathering professions early in Cata.. need info..

So, for those of you in Beta, what are good areas to go and get started with gathering professions in Cata. What are the good mining areas? Are there mote clouds to extract? Where are the good herbs?..

The extractor's description implies that mining (and perhaps herbing?) things will yield extra motes; I don't think there are any clouds to extract.

Someone mentioned that Deepholm is mining mecca (big surprise! ). Can I get there before 81? Should I mine in Hyjal/Uldum until I get to 81, and then hit Deepholm?

You can't get there until you reach level 82 I believe. You can't get into the zone without doing a certain quest and I'm pretty sure that quest didn't come available to me until 82.

Yeah you can head to Deepholm at 82, just hit the Hero's Call Board. You need to level mining a bit before you can mine elementium anyway, so you might as well get some quests out of the way in Hyjal/Vashj'ir to hit 82. Also 82 is mad quick. 80-81 is like no XP and 81-82 is more of a normal Cata level but it's still only one level.

In regards to herbs, my current plan is to level the skill to 475 on Northrend herbs, and then head to Uldum to collect Whiptail.

oh ok. Those aren't even remotely close to each other BTW. The Maelstrom is actually in fact a zone it's just not one that contains anything but cutscenes. (it's how you get to deepholm)

Ohhhh okay. That makes me feel much better. I wasn't looking forward to having to level my DK just to fuel my paladin's JC and BS.

ok, let's ask it a different way.. apart from phasing, what's the order to go out to level mining? Obsidian first in Vashj'ir?
