So, looks like the advent of Str 1 handers may mean no more fast tanking weapons.

Yay.

I'd say the advent of heroic strike becoming a no-GCD instant instead of an ONA is the reason.

Might as well lump tanks in with SMF warriors and frost DKs to cut down on itemization, imo... just remove "tank" weapons and balance accordingly. Give me a weapon with a threat stat and Mastery on it and I'll be happy.

Seriously. Making Str 1Hs with defensive stats on them would be the dumbest thing ever and if they actually do it for release I will be disappointed.

Partly to link something to test the mmo-champ links, and partly to add to the discussion:

As for the list, I personally much prefer wowhead. The formatting involved in converting all my links to mmo-champ ones is extensive and I'll try to make it so that I run two documents - one with half wowhead (stable)/half mmochamp (non-wowhead items) links and one with all wowhead links. The WoWhead links have comments, screenshots, etc... just more features in general but it's nice to be able to use the mmo-champ links if I need to (i.e. when the item isn't on wowhead yet).

Edit: Wowhead also shows icons, which is neat but I guess not completely necessary. Ultimately every final live version of the list (i.e. ones with no remaining PTR/Beta links) will be fully Wowhead listed as opposed to MMO-champ listed.

[Mouth of the Earth] is a valid inclusion at this point as it has the same sta as [Darkhowl Amulet], 96% of its avoidance with Kings(level 80 values haven't checked 85) has more exp and hit at the expense of str. It is superior to [Soulbind Choker] and [Carrier Wave Pendant]. Its source may mean it should be removed (e.g. quest reward alongside the true tanking neck). You should still probably pass it to MS melee DPS and only take it if no one else needs it.

Just realised that you should be able to reforge 40 exp (or hit) to 40 dodge/parry/mastery on [Mouth of the Earth] but only 30 exp to parry/mastery on [Darkhowl Amulet]. This has the possibility of placing the DPS neck with higher avoidance, making it the survivability choice and the tanking neck the threat choice. I thought Cataclysm was meant to make gear choices transparent and easier...

Wait, what? The reforged neck with 100 hit, 60 expertise, and 40 dodge (or parry) would be the "survivability" choice when compared to the neck with 149 dodge, 46 expertise, and 30 parry?

<edit> Ah, I see, Agility vs. STR. Do we know if the Agi->Dodge conversion is going to remain favorable though? I was expecting them to nerf that pretty heavily for tanks across the board to avoid a similar situation from happening with rings and weapons.

Wowhead links are preferable I should think, as MMOC ones will be useless as soon as things are actually posted on wowhead. It shouldn't be hard to batch-replace them with wowhead links as they appear though.

Greens are definitely worthwhile, as they appear no different from blues (ilvl trumps color).

I doubt we'd get on use ability of 1425 strength for 20 seconds every 2 minutes, possibly 425, but the itemization on those trinkets look like place holders to me. Remember tooltips are often wrong on beta and before they added the rep requirement, I used both trinkets and wasn't getting either on use effect to actually do anything.
