I'm pretty sure they just balanced the experience rates to the point it ends up being zone based. You're ready for Uldum/Twilight Highlands if you're done with Deepholm. You're ready for Deepholm if you're done with Hyjal/Vashj'ir. As for why Deepholm is the only non / there, it's probably because it introduces you to the new faction for shoulder enchants.

Or I just have the level ranges wrong, one or the other.

I had to complete both Hyjal and Vashj'ir before I "felt" ready for Deepholme. Maybe that has to do with the NPC damage scaling, dunno.

To be honest, I gained half a level by levelling Archaeology from 15 to 50 (that was 81 to 81.5). So I wouldn't even be level 83 yet if not for that.

For reference on how far in I am: I've done every quest in Vashj'ir apart from the bugged ones in the very last area, and I've done the first two major chains in Deepholm (first and middle shard). I think the part I've recently started is the final chain for the zone, the Therazane line, but feel free to correct me if there's more to come.

How in the world did you get 1/2 a level from that? I leveled mining on one of my 80s from 0 to about 380 and only got 3-4% total XP above 80.

Sounds about right for Deepholme. And there's no breadcrumb for Uldum and/or Twilight Highlands - at least not that I found.

I got a breadcrumb when I was questing in Deepholm. I think I got a drop off a quest target (maybe when you close the titan portal?) that sent me to the Pillar, then Org, then Uldum.

All I know is the Hero's Call boards updated when I hit 83.

As for the levelling from Archaeology, when I did it the xp gains were way overtuned. For half of the skillups I was getting rested bonus from surveying XP, and the rest of the time it was giving me 27k an artifact, about as much as quests.

Yeah sorry, should probably have clarified. I meant 'ready' as in 'You can get the quests from the NPCs'.
