You tank Saurfang on the platform where the portal is near the edge, and you have everyone spread out as usual (basically a mirror of the current typical strat). Then, when the blood beasts come out, instead of killing them or kiting them in frost patches while dpsing them down, you just thunderstorm/typhoon them off the ledge and they fall to their death. This should make the encounter last about 2-3 minutes max with no switching dps.

I looked through the patch notes and there was nothing that said this was fixed yet, so I am going to give it a shot this week to let you all know if it works. Anyone else use this yet?

Hahaha. That is awesome. I don't care if it's an exploit; it's hilarious.

Tried this for kicks and it has been fixed, as far as we can tell. The beasts just evade.

We were working on this fight tonight and I thought of Stoneclaw Totem. It actually worked well on the adds and didn't pull the boss. Our Holy paladin wasn't pulling the adds enough but these totems worked well.

Just out of interest has anyone found an accurate timer for the beasts spawn? I've used DBM and Deus Vox and I've not had any luck so far, would make the fight a bit easier.

Also as an aside we were struggling on this fight, then we tried sacrificing 2 people and we killed it on the next pull, got the achievement too.

The timer from BigWigs seems really accurate.

The issue with Mark of the Fallen Champion going away after a release was stealth fixed. It will remain on you if you release. However, if you release before the encounter ends, the Mark doesn't go away, so when you start the next encounter you will have it still.

We discovered this after we got him to about 4% before it went to shit and our healers let 3 marks die in quick order. However, some of those released early. By the time the wipe was done, several people had released with the mark. When we started the next attempt the mark did not go away and he started wailing on the tanks and the 5 marked people...

You can avoid this by not having anyone release until he is fully reset and despawns.

Hypothetical question:

Could you just stack block value, get shielded then just tank the beasts without causing blood points? Do they hit weakly enough for that level of BV to be attainable?

I think they hit extremely hard, but I can't say for certain.

Solo tanking

Everytime a tank gets hit, he does an extra 5950 to 8050 damage, and heals for 5x the amount.
Assuming an attack speed of 2.4s, and avoidance of 40%, he will gain [(7000*5/2.4s)*0.6] 8750 hps.

It's a 2 tank encounter. So, unless, if by replacing a tank, you gain an additional 8750 dps, you're actually prolonging the fight.

If your math is right, that is not unreasonable. Our melee routinely do between 8-9k on that fight.

I wonder if tank stacking avoidance and 1 tanking would be easier then 2 tanking.

Uptime isn't 100%. Mortal Strike effects probably work, they work on virtually every other boss healing mechanic in Wrath. I agree that 2-tanking this fight is a better method, but I think you're overestimating the dps cost.

EDIT: Sidenote, I was at 55% post-chill raidbuffed boss deprecated pure avoidance last night for this fight. We 2-tanked it, but wearing avoidance gear would also signifcantly reduce the rdps impact.

Your tank does 4k dps. Your melee would have to do 12.75k, if the math was right.

My numbers were conservative of course. I personally have nearer to 50% raid buffed in the set I used to tank saurfang.

Even then though it's still [(7000*5/2.4s)*0.5] = 7292 dps.

No idea if wound poison/MS/aimed shot works. If it does, then, it's halved ofc, and single tanking become the "right" strategy. However, in 10, you're not guarenteed a MS debuff, and umm... arms warr's are rare, hunters are common, but mutilate rogues don't use wound poison, so if you're unlucky, you still won't get it in a 25. Frost mages and SP have a - healing too, but I think it's only 20% and is it tied to pvp talents?

Regarding uptime, it's up nearly 100% afaik. Usually as soon as my debuff runs out, he put's it up again on the other tank. Checking logs, brb.

Edit : I have 2 logs. One has a 82% uptime, the other has 62%. Interesting...

From the logs of a Forlorn Legacy kill because I don't have one of my own guild run:

Code: Select all
[21:40:41.522] Deathbringer Saurfang hits Kimieko 3637 (A: 6006, B: 3907)
[21:40:42.624] Deathbringer Saurfang hits Kimieko Parry
[21:40:43.873] Deathbringer Saurfang hits Kimieko 4766 (B: 7876)
[21:40:44.933] Deathbringer Saurfang hits Kimieko 4723 (B: 7876)
[21:40:46.130] Deathbringer Saurfang hits Kimieko Parry
[21:40:47.245] Deathbringer Saurfang hits Kimieko 5881 (A: 1852, B: 3938)
[21:40:48.324] Deathbringer Saurfang hits Kimieko Absorb (5058)
[21:40:49.566] Deathbringer Saurfang hits Kimieko 3089 (A: 8073)
[21:40:50.833] Deathbringer Saurfang hits Kimieko 7042 (B: 4594)

Which is more or less a 1.2 second swing timer, not the 2.4 assumed.

Deathbringer Saurfang has base attack speed of 1s, 1.2s after melee slow debuffs, 0.9s attack speed when "enraged" with melee slow debuffs.

Whee! Maths!

Also, until there's a definite confirmed uptime, I'm just going to make it 100%.

So now it becomes:
No MS[(7000*5/1.2s)*0.5] = 14583 hps
MS [(7000*5/1.2s)*0.5*0.5] = 7291 hps
Frenzy No MS [(7000*5/0.9s)*0.5] = 19444 hps
Frenzy MS [(7000*5/0.9s)*0.5*0.5] = 9722 hps

It's looking like single tank strategy is false economy, even with a MS effect available.

So, it's, at the very minimum, a dps that does tank dps+9722 to break even.

If there's any dps with 13.7k, feel free to drop an app at my guild, we'll accept you as soon as we process it.
