ret levelling/tanking build

Postby Rhust » Mon Jun 16, 2008 12:04 pm

Hi, I'm new here. I'm leveling my Paladin to eventually tank for our Guild, but I'm leveling with ret for speed at questing. my pally is currently at 55, from time to time I'm still asked to tank instances tho... is there a possible build that would allow me to tank instances as well still quest effectively?

questing prot specced seems slow, and instances are relatively a small amount of the quests needed. so I was thinking maybe just 13-15 core points in prot with the rest in ret to get to 70... would this give me enough versatility that if I swapped a decent amount of gear I could tank an instance well?

You'll want at least these 13 points in Prot:

If you can spare more, it'd be a good idea to grab Anticipation and Kings, but you could tank halfway decent at that level with the rest of your points in Ret.
I rule.

ok, cool I just didn't know if a ret-tank would be a huge failure...

I'm thinking of swapping to something like this tonight(for level 55+)

with 16 points in prot, and 30 in ret. and putting more points in ret as I level but maybe I'll start with just the 13 in prot and upgrade prot a little as I go...

Actually a ret tank can generate way more threat than a prot one due to Sanctity Aura + Vengeance... 27% holy damage boost, srs business

Yup exactly what was said by worldie and others you'll be rocking if you grab 13 into prot to get the +threat modifier (imp RF) the -6% dmg and 10% armor +redoubt should be enough to make you harder to kill and your threat will actualy be better than full prot at this level, plus if you have sanc judgement your mana usage will be quite a bit more efficient. Your best bet as far as threat rotation is to quickly judge crusader on the target (go go 3%crit for more vengence) then seal and judge righteous instead of command for more steady threat. I would still use crusader strike liberaly as well to keep your vengence stack up.

PS Rhust whatup!
