Got some questions?

Postby Saintbush » Fri May 23, 2008 10:48 am

First time poster long time watcher

Now my question is part gear/talent/gem so I placed it here

First a little background. Im a casual gamer so I don't get to do alot of instances and things of that sort.

Well I got asked to tank old Hillsbrad last night. We had a druid healing, rogue and mage dps. I'm 67 with the Mage 69 and Druid 66 and I cant recall the rogue. In downtime the Mage and I were discussing my gear and he mentioned that my gear isnt to terrible but isnt to great either and he mentioned the Adamantite Breatplate and the other two pieces. would be good upgrades. So i zipped to shadowmoon valley and purchased all three. And I've crafted and put on the breastplate. He also gave me advice on how to maintain agro a little bit better.

1 How should I socket?
2 Should I craft the othe pieces?
3 Hows my other gear?
4 Hows my talents?
5 What stats should i concentrate on?

I have 621gold
343 Blacksmithing (Master Swordsmith)
I do have some champion gear in the bank and Shield of the Wayward Footman in my bank which i picked up for 14gold on ah. and 4 dawnstones uncut.

My only problem with my gear in the bank is that I go from 8k to 6k in hp Here it is

Thanks in advance and sorry for the crazy long post but Im stuck at home all day from being sick and I dont feel like playing wow right now

here's the deal... I've been on the boards for a week now, and pre-70 you care about:

Health
Spell Damage
Armor (make sure you're in plate LOL)

the adamantite pieces are cool, but they aren't going to give you tanking stats. They have good AC, and good Sta, but they don't have Spell Damage to increase your threat. Really, while they have sockets, and can give you better stamina, they are meh IMO. The Shield is EXCELLENT. I'm 69, and I still use it to tank. (pretrified lich FTW when questing)

Sorcer, champion, elder, eagle, in that order are good gear choices before 70 (sorcerer and champion are kinda equal, but you need spell damage). I'm using a caster mace (mog'hor's annointing club). You should be able to get it at about 67-68 depending on how good your group for RoB is.

Ok thats what i thought about SD and stuff. but wasn't 100% sure.

and HECK yah on the pretrified lich that was one of the first things I did when I got to outlands...start the grinding for it. nothing like grabing like 6 guys and just stiting there until they die.

Being the same level, race etc as your pally, here's the armory on mine:

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-shee ... &n=Kathane

The engineering makes up most/all of the stamina difference between the two. I'm logged out in my "Instance AOE" gear, as opposed to my "Questing AOE" gear (more mana and SD, less Stamina) or my "Instance tank" gear for bosses. In my tank set, I'm about 10.9k health unbuffed, and my mana pool is atrocious  (about 4k, with kings).

I'd suggest spending on the spell damage enchant on your sword, that'll free up at least one trinket slot for the Regal Protectorate from the "Cruel's Intentions" chain in HFP. Get yourself up to Netherstorm (preferably with a friend) and do the Thadell's Bracers quest ('Til the Cows' Come Home). With no help, it is GY zergable, as long as you get at least across the bridge before dying.

Definitely get your Wayward Footman enchanted with stamina and run with that. Run SP for the Bogstrok Scale Cloak, it'll cover you 'til 70 and your endless Steamvaults runs for the Devilshark Cape :D Put some work in to your Cen Ex rep, as you'll want revered for the Strength of the Untamed neck piece (see SP and SV runs, above). Also think about the +10 STA armor kits on those pieces that you'll be using for a bit, but don't want to sink an expensive enchant on. Plan on spending some time learning Old Hillsbrad, as there are 3 excellent tankadin rep pieces from Keepers of Time at revered (glyph, legs and weapon).

I'm reluctant to touch spec stuff, since I'm still learning it myself (Thanks, Maintankadin forums!), but if you're doing a lot of instance tanking, you're missing out on a ton of threat by not having 1h Weapon Specialization. 5% damage from all sources = 9.5% extra threat from holy damage, which should be 85-90% of your threat generation.
"What's the kill order?"
"This room, the next room, the hallway, and then the boss."
