imp sor vs. 1h weapon spec

It's probably been covered in another post, but does imp sor do any better for threat than 1h weapon spec?

Good question, but I don't think that I could fit it into my build. Unless the threat bonus was huge I have a hard time justifying spending 5 points into the holy tree to get into Imp SoR.

Well, improved SoR is +15% damage to SoR and JoR. But 1H weapon spec is +5% to all damage. I would think that improved SoR is is actually worse than 1H. 1H weapon spec increases all attacks (white and yellow) by 5%. So SoR itself would be +5%, consecration +5%, Holy Shield +5%, exorcism is +5%. Add those all up, that would be more benefit than just SoR +15% alone I think.

The big problem is you are sacrificing 5 talent points, that's a lot of points. You gimp your survivability too much to pick this up. You can increase spell damage by food, flask, etc.

Think the common figure is that righteousness generally accounts for ~30% of threat on a single target fight. I forget if that includes white melee damage and judgements as well (which wouldn't benefit from taking imp SoR). Having less than 1/3 of your threat increase by 15% is worse overall than having all of your threat increase by 5%. Plus a spec that has 5 filler points in it in divine int or strength, to get to imp SoR, is a spec that is missing crucial talents elsewhere.

Yeah, there really isn't any way to sacrifice pts to get imp SoR without gimping your surivability.

In addition to 1HWS simply being the superior talent for threat generation, I would never be able to bring myself to spend 5 points in either Divine Strength or Intellect. 5 talent points in Strength wouldn't even net me a single point of Block Value, and 5 points in Intellect would be about 180 mana.

Definitely a huge waste for any prot pally.
