Question about my avoidance/uncrushable etc.

Postby ayakai » Wed Jun 13, 2007 11:51 am

This is the first time I've been to these forums and I've already found a lot of helpful information regarding pally tanking. A question I have though is if someone could help me determine my avoidance, and how much more I need to attain "uncrushable" status. I've seen posts on the WOW forums before about how to calculate whether you are uncrushable etc. but never really know what I'm doing when I try.

This is the link to my armory http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/chara ... h&n=Ayakai

If it doesn't work for some reason my character's name is ayakai on vek'nilash server. I think I have been doing alright as far as gathering gear goes, I still need to do that Mana Tombs escort to replace my boots.

I also need to get a new trinket to replace the Regal Protectorate, been looking to get Adamantine Figurine or Figurine of the Colossus. I'm also trying to increase my Sha'tar Rep to get the shield reward.

If anyone can give me some advice/opinions and possibly help me out with seeing how much more avoidance I need, whether from dodge/parry/block or whatever to be considered "uncrushable" that would be terrific. And if anyone knows some numbers I should be shooting for to start trying to tank things such as Kara or Heroics or anything that would be great too.

Thanks a lot =) and sorry for the long post

The ' in your server name seems to be messing up the link. But anyway, your gear is pretty good for the most part. You're currently at 97.87% mitigation with the goal being 102.4%. Once you get the Libram of Repentence from badge of justices you will be sitting just over the uncrushable mark. After that I'd look to build some stamina, stamina enchants on your shield and boots will help.

Your gear is looking good, just as a minor suggestion I would change the enchant on your cloak to agility or dodge rating, they are quite similar, get whichever suits your budget best.

Also the libram mentioned by Phasek is key in reaching that extra little bit of mitigation, that and changing your attack power trinket for a Figurine of the Colossus will help mitigation for the time being.

Thank you for the replies. You both mentioned getting that libram from the heroic badges, I noticed that libram as well but would you say my gear is good enough at the moment to tank a heroic instance? I haven't tried to do one as of yet and was hoping to avoid getting a group together for one and then getting destroyed as soon as we started lol. Again thanks for the replies, I appreciate the help.

Also forgot to mention that I have collected the Furies Deck and will be able to get that trinket when the Darkmoon Fair comes around again. I believe it's +51 stamina and 10% chance when I'm hit to deal 100 something holy damage.

Mech is by far the easiest heroic to start with imo. Try to make a balanced group healer, tank, 2 dps that can cc, 1 more dps or hybrid or offspec whatever (shadow priest, elemental enchancement shaman, feral druids etc).

Slave pens is not too bad either, they can both take under 60mins with a good group. Most of the other heroics take alot longer which is why it's hard to get pickup groups for them.

102.6% is the magic number for uncrushable when holy shield is up vs lvl 73 raid bosses. However, in heroic 5 mans there are no lvl 73 "raid boss" mobs you'll see a max of lvl 72 if I recall correctly.

you don't need the full 102% to be uncrushable vs lvl 72's

Shadow priests trivialize most instances with a paladin tank so if you know a decent one it's good times.

Tanking heroics has nothing to do with the 102.4% rule. You cannot be crushed in an heroic instance (under normal circumstances). Focus on getting 485 defense (un-critable by lvl 72 mobs), and then stack as much stamina as you can. As a 3rd stat, int can be useful, or you can go for dodge/block value, depending on your style.

Remember, stamina is king in heroics.
