Mastering the three GCD dance.
Hey there guys,
I am having a bit of trouble here. I really can't seem to get a hang of this new rotation. I know it seems really odd, but I am actually having trouble when it comes to the raiding. To the point where I am so much more focused on my rotation that I can't see mechanics as clearly as I should.
Any advice on how to smooth out or what I can do to memorize this rotation better? I think I am just going to keep tanking heroics until it becomes muscle memory. But anything extra that can help would be much appreciated.

You may want to try clcprot.

I have clcprot downloaded and I still find myself more focused on the rotation rather than what's going on.

The new rotation does take a bit more attention than the old one, at least at first. I definitely noticed it the first week of raiding, but it's gotten much better with practice. The first thing I'd tell you is to not worry about fillers that much - focus on getting the basic skeleton down:
CS-J-X-CS-X-J-CS-X-X
Once you have that pattern down (do a mental three-step in your head if necessary), you can start dropping AS, Holy Wrath, and Cons in as fillers. I use Light's Hammer as a L90 talent, so I don't usually use it rotationally, which is one less thing to worry about.
Another alternative to clcprot is to try out my WeakAuras set-up.

Re: Mastering the three GCD dance.
I found the weak auras set up really helped me monitor sacred sheild and what was on cooldown so would definately be something I'd recommend. Thanks Theckd
We haven't made it into raids yet so no idea how my rotation will survive impact.
I think Meloree made a comment in the advanced forums or possibly this one that hitting something is better than struggling over what to hit although working on your rotation should I suppose make it easier to hit the right thing on reflex.

Re: Mastering the three GCD dance.
That's usually true for raw DPS. "Hit anything" works a little less well for prot because we care about prioritizing HP generators for mitigation. That's why I suggested you focus on getting the HP gen cycle down, because if you can keep that going, then "hit anything" works really well for the filler slots.

Re: Mastering the three GCD dance.
If in trouble with getting it, how would you rate a filler macro like
/castrandom Cons, HW, AS
type, to hit instead of X?
/castrandom Cons, HW, AS
type, to hit instead of X?

Re: Mastering the three GCD dance.
I'd probably use /castsequence instead of /castrandom, simply because you'd be more likely to get something that's off-cooldown.
Ex: /castsequence [reset=15] Avenger's Shield, Consecration, Holy Wrath
Ex: /castsequence [reset=15] Avenger's Shield, Consecration, Holy Wrath

Re: Mastering the three GCD dance.
In reality it could be made better though, couldn't it?
I haven't tried it, nut my understanding is that the empty space would let you go for As or drop through to the cast sequence - I'm thinking of grand crusader here, wanting to have AS more available than the other 2.
