Is there any harm spamming Shield of the Righteous?
Is there any harm in casting Shield of the Righteous when its damage reduction buff is still up (such as under the effects of Divine Purpose)?
I was testing it out and got a lucky Divine Purpose streak which allowed me to get the buff up to 6 seconds but I was afraid of clipping issues so I made this post.

You can't clip the SotR buff, it always adds 3 more seconds on to the end of what you have, it makes holy avenger an awesome cd

Wow, I didn't know it doesn't clip. So 18 seconds of Holy Avenger, suppose we pop it right after a ShoR, that means we can get 12*3 = 36 seconds of 30% damage reduction? Looks like a great CD for AOE farming stuff like the motes of harmony...

Hmm don't think you'll get as much as 36 sec of the SotR buff unless you're incredibly lucky with procs, but a good 20 sec with a little haste.
Also my SotR gives me 48% dmg reduction and I'm gemmed for haste not mastery, looking at the base dmg reduction maybe?

It should be a minimum of 38% even with 0 mastery rating.

I'd say a minimum of 43%, since you should always have Might (or one of its alternatives) now as a Paladin, imo.

Well, you could imagine a 10-man group with one paladin and no monks/druids. And I'd imagine that stats is more important for raid dps than might, so there are some situations where you might not have it. Though it's a bit of a stretch.

Yep even more of a stretch as shammies have BoM as a raid passive, and can Hunters bring BoM as well they seem to be able to do every other buff/debuff going. Damn pleased we have a good reliable hunter again so useful in a 10 man.

Spirit Beasts and Cats bring BoM, Shale Spiders (exotic) bring BoK.

Kinda in the same vein, what should the uptime of SotR buff be?
I read someone told me that around 70% should be the target but I'm struggling, my best last night was 38% odd, I can't be that terrible, I might have wasted the odd HP by being a bit slow/ concentrating on moving but that seems a hell of a gulf. Am I the victim of a wind up or do I just need to stop sucking?

Depends how much haste you have.
I seem to remember Theck saying with no haste we generate about 0.5 of a holy power every second so with no down time and perfect play you'll get about 50% uptime. If your specced holy avenger more than 50% is possible, but in a real fight 38% doesn't sound too bad as there's often fight mechanics that mean you have to break your rotation a little.

It's closer to 0.4, actually, not including L75 talents. Once L75 talents are included, it can end up around 50% averaged over an entire fight.

Mind you, the boss is probably only meleeing you about 80% of the time depending on the fight. You can get a better idea of performance by looking at incoming hits. What's your percent on those?
