Mastery, Avoidance, and Gear Replacement

Alrighty...so I am doing my best to keep up with the theory-crafting, but I'm still not as well-versed on Mastery "do's and don't"'s quite yet...

So here's my question. Does a ~1% increase to mastery trump a 0.3% avoidance?

My guess is yes, but I'm having difficulty replacing my old avoidance mentality with mastery stacking...and the mastery item is green while the avoidance item is purple (replacing hard-acquired raid items with greens makes me cry a little inside...). I wish there was an easier-to-follow set of Mastery rules...

Here's my suggestion, if it is a WotLK purple, replace it ASAP. The sooner you can let go the better.
