Turning mobs around
Just about all tanks turn the mobs around to face away from the raid. The question is how you do it. Not on bosses, but on trash. Bosses usually have huge hit-boxes, so it's never safe to run through a boss unless the boss is casting, or otherwise unable to melee. So most of us probably always just swivel around the boss to turn it.
I've always jumped through trash. It started after hearing that if you jump, the server calculates your position as if you were standing still at where you left the ground, and then immediately move you to where you land. So if I turn in mid-air, I should be able to avoid having my back to the mobs for that split second.
But does it really work? Or are there better ways to do it?
EDIT: Added option...didn't realize that'd reset the poll. Sorry people.

I face trash towards the melee to get as many people cleaved as possible, the only people I let live are my healers because I like them. Biggest success is if me and healers are only ones left standing when trash is dead.

I like it!
Honestly, I'll take one on the butt from a boss too, there isn't a single boss in the game that can two shot me from a melee. But for the most part, I have always run in, and jump turned while attacking, the jump is totally unnecessary, but looks cooler, and brings me back to my days as a warrior tank in vanilla when we just jumped for giggles all encounter long.
Edit: I forgot to mention, its ICC, run in Holy Wrath, consecrate, run through them and turn around, you wont get hit, and you will have them turned around. conversely, your dps shouldn't be so lazy on trash packs, just tank them where they stand and make them walk!

We call this game Bingo.
One day I'm going to start recording footage from trash, splice together a whole bunch of the more inventive kills, and set it to "The Killing Game" by Skinny Puppy.

Get into range, then hold down either Q and D, or A and E.
That moves you in an arc around the bad guy while keeping your
distance from him constant, so he doesn't do most of the
annoying run-through-you-and-hit-you-in-the back stuff mobs
like to do.

If I need to move mobs 180 degrees, I run through them and turn around. If I need to move them 90 degrees, I turn sideways and walk backwards.

I do the hokey pokey and turn myself around. That's what it's all about.

jumping keeps your forward momentum going so you still travel in the same direction while spinning. normaly you'd have to reverse your direction while spinning which is annoying.

I circle strafe large packs so they all end up standing on the same pixel. Makes for tidy piles of cleavage.

Re: Turning mobs around
I've been trying out strafing for a 90 degree position the whole day and couldn't do it properly. The moment I start strafing, the mobs strafe as well parallel to me, what's happening here? Come to think of it, I've never tanked mobs 90 degrees to the raid before.
Granted it was outside in the world, picking on regular mobs for practice. But then I settled back to jumping through them and turn in mid-air, and all of the sudden the mobs would turn (as expected), see me land, then walk through me to stand behind me!
Anybody seen this kind of thing? The only thing that works for me now is to strafe through them for a 180 degree turn, or run through them for the same turn. The mobs seem hyper-sensitive to me strafing to the side and just won't let me turn it around...

Strafing and trying to turn them 90 degrees employs predictive pathing, meaning that the mob AI will guess where you are going and position themselves accordingly. This is what is causing the problem, backing up, or running forward and turning around will employ reactive pathing, meaning that if you back up the mob will follow you as you back up.

Re: Turning mobs around
Yeah, in the end I had to use what I used when tanking Mimiron. To turn mobs 90 degrees, the best would be to move straight (not strafe) to the side of the mob, cutting into the mob's hitbox, then turn 90 degrees myself, and back out a little if needed.

Re: Turning mobs around
I personally use the jumping straight through option on mobs and bosses. It provides the quickest and most efficient turnaround, and I have found that it doesn't decrease my survivability.

turn jumps and curved strafe kites win the game.
