Sacred Shield-Prot vs holy
So supposedly Holy SS is stronger then Prot's but does anyone know of a thread where the numbers support this? Im having trouble finding anything worthwhile on it other then "let the holy pallie cast on you"

WoWHead comments are saying pretty consistently that it soaks 500 + [0.75 x spell power] damage.
My spell power's 813. I think healadins at my gear level are in the low two thousands range, plus they'll actually use the Flash of Light proc.

For relative gains, i sit at 1024 and our Holy pallies sit near 3200 unbuffed. It seems like the 1:3 ratio is about right, so you can get quite a bit more damage absorption out of the holy's SS.

Re: Sacred Shield-Prot vs holy
So my holy pally is at 2679 SP and does not spec into DG
His shield absorbs 500 + (.75*2679) = 2509.25
If he was spec'd 500 + (.75*2679) = (2509.25*.20)+2509.25 = 3011.1
My shield absorbs 500 + (.75*1034) = 1275.50
If I was spec'd 500 + (.75*1034) = (1275.50*.20)+1275.50 = 1530.6
I saw somewhere where they might of added defense into that equation. Like for a holy Pally it would be 400 but for prot it would be 570. Giving it a slight boost for prot but not nearly enough to make it overpower the SP part of it. YE,Nay?
Edit: and hell no my lamesauce math isnt as good or pretty as thecks...

If it's useful and correct, it's as good as any math in the world. And yours is more widely accessible!

Re: Sacred Shield-Prot vs holy
I believe the defense calculation was added into ardent defender to discourage holy geared prot specced healers in arena. I don't remember anything about it with sacred shield.
Remember if you only have one holy pally they can only cast there shield on one person so if they are using it on you you could offer some minor damage reduction to another tank/squishy, something is better than nothing. Just remember you can cast it before a fight begins to save at least a gcd in combat.
