The only time I use ret is tanking CoT, but that's just so the healer and DPS don't have to waste spells on the little adds.

As above I use Dev in Raids, Ret in 5 mans/aoe farming.

The one I'll admit to not understanding when to use or what it does really is Concentration Aura?

Ret when you don't need more survivability/have no ret pally, devo/<element> resist when you need to take less damage.

There's really absolutely no other way to think about auras.

The only reason I ever personally use Ret aura are for those annoying little 100-2000 HP adds that die if you look at them funny. It effectively allows me to ignore them, if the DPS is too lazy to smack them. I also use it for AOE grinding, when I know my back'll probably be turned to something for a few seconds.

thank you, i was very sleep deprived when i wrote that
just an update, i am 78, with 545 def, (almost)19k hp, and 20k armor unbuffed, self-buffed in dev that jumps to just under 20k hp and over 21k armor
