The Weapon Compendium

The following is a general listing of weapons that Tanking paladins might pursue. It is by no means comprehensive, but rather a starting point in your quest for the perfect weapon with which you will defend your party and raid. I will attempt to keep this post updated as a resource for both new and old guard paladin tanks. Please feel free to make suggestions and I'll add them.

Different paladins prefer different types of weapons in accordance to their needs and strategy on tanking. Spell damage weapons, tanking weapons, and hybrid combinations of the two are all viable choices with effective tradeoffs. Ideally, this list will serve as a jumping off point to find a variety of paladin tanking weapons.

Although I think a little room for disagreement is a good thing, I don't really think the Blade of the Archmage or the Bloodmaw Magus-Blade really belog on the list. They've got high spell damage sure, but not enough stamina to justify it imo.

Any spell blade or mace could go on the list of possibilities even if they are not likely the best options if this is to be a definitive and complete list. If you wanted to rank them in order of utility/quality (perhaps an asterisk to denote "recommended" choices), that might also help some folks out. Guess it really depends on how much work you want to put into this and who the target audience is.

In general I agree with your thinking Dorvan, but nonetheless consider the Bloodmaw Magus-Blade and weapons like it to be viable, if not ideal, options for a paladin tank to pursue. As such, I've split the spell damage weapon list at the 20 stamina point. Thanks for the suggestions and links. I'll continue to keep updating as new suggestions come in. The spell damage lists are very complete. There are quite a few "warrior" tanking weapons that are not on the physical list but I suppose nobody really takes the idea of using any of them over a CB or Gladiator's Gavel seriously
