Nikachelle's Mists of Pandaria Paladin Tank Gear List

I'll preface this thread by saying I was really wary of making this list and posting it publicly. I'm not going to be ranking items in terms of "which is best" because I simply do not keep up with the math threads as much as those who have kept these kinds of gear lists in the past. This thread is simply a gear dump, including ilevels and locations. ANYTHING with the same ilevel will be ranked with the same number, so please do not use this as a priority list unless you're going by ilevel only. I was doing this for myself and thought it'd be worth sharing in case there's anyone else looking for a list

I'll be including any items with haste on them so long as they also have a tank stat (you won't see +crit +haste items, for example), however, any agility items will be excluded.

If I've missed something, by all means, point it out! I'll add it to the list when I get a chance. (Also appreciated: errors, omissions, etc. If you see something wrong, let me know!) This will always be a work in progress, so please refer to the post following this one if you're curious as to what will be included next (aka, what I know I'm missing but don't have time to add at this moment.)

I cleaned the forum a bit, you can has sticky Nika.

Nice list. Necks: need to fix ilvl vs raid finder/norm/h, and add valor necks (unless they're there and attributed to something else...can't look up anything from work ><)

Edit: (love the cached page workaround) Bloodseeker's Solitaire: Strength/haste/mastery, Paragon's Pale Pendant: Strength/parry/hit; both Klaxxi/489

Are there valor necks? I can't remember seeing them. But there are the ones from Golden Lotus Exalted.

Fixed and added. Thanks!

Added!

Cripes... how many necks do we need?

haven't noticed any loot from galleon ... http://www.wowhead.com/npc=62346

you can also include retri tier items. they're pretty OP

and http://www.wowhead.com/item=79329

keep up the good work

Typo on "3. ilevel 502 [Vial of Dragon's Blood] - Elegon, Mogu'shan Vaults (Raid Finder)"

Looks great though. I'll be super interested in seeing the Terrace drops added!

I'll be adding the Terrace, Galleon and retribution drops tonight.

Engineering goggles and dragonling trinket? The trinket's only a blue (ilvl 450 I think), but it does let you get +600 in 3 different secondary stats and is useable by anyone.

Updated with Terrace of Endless Spring, Ret tier and Galleon drops (and your ones Bene). I still have to get to the crafted stuff, but that's for another day.

Nice list! I think it's missing some BoE rares (476). I bought a shield, sold some hit/haste pants and have seen a chest piece on the AH. I've also read of a necklace. The pants dropped from a mob I killed for the GL dailies, so it was a world drop - some may be raid trash drops though. You can probably filter wowhead by BoE to track them down.

There are also the rare 5 man boss drops to be added.

Nice list thx for putting it together.
I'd include the Will of the emperor haste trinket with the strength proc, if your going for a haste build it's better than the Elegon one, it also seems to have a higher uptime than the dodge proc, small sample size so most likely me just been lucky.

also, not sure if it's busted links or a name change, but it looks like the white tiger headguard is a holy piece (maybe looking for the white tiger faceguard)?

Also, the LFR tier head links seem to go to the Heroic piece.

Another thing you might think about adding is Conquest gear, particularly now that it will be upgradeable in 5.1. A few of the pieces have great stat distribution and they are pretty easy to obtain for 483 ilvl gear.

This one is missing from fingers as well:
http://www.wowhead.com/item=90862

Kind of subjective, but trinkets like this can also be good:
http://www.wowhead.com/item=86144

Thanks for the list, it is really helpful for me. My only complained is that the linked tier heads have a bit too much spirit on them for my taste

(Read: These are the holy ones being linked)

As far as I can tell, the Blacksmithing items which are crafted using raid-dropped patterns are missing.
Gauntlets of Battle Command
Unyielding Bloodplate
Ornate Battleplate of the Master (intended as DPS item)

Bloodforged Warfists (DPS item with crit)

I find myself using filters like these quite often to find gear lists.

Hope this helps.

In light of haste being awesome and all that, I feel that the Jade Charioteer Figurine (item level 489, MGV Trash) deserves a mention.

Put up the Relic of Nizao, would you? The tank DMC trinket of the expansion. It's lovely when gearing up.

Just curious, if this is a "Paladin Tank Gear List" why are there Ret pieces (and also Holy pieces marked as Ret pieces) in the list? Thank you for the list though! It's a great resource. ^.^

Aurzon wrote:Just curious, if this is a "Paladin Tank Gear List" why are there Ret pieces (and also Holy pieces marked as Ret pieces) in the list? Thank you for the list though! It's a great resource. ^.^

Not sure which pieces you're referring to specifically (as I can't view the links at the moment), but:

If a piece has hit/exp/haste/mastery and not crit, it's just as valid for a tank (see Theck's guide under basic training.)

If it has hit/exp and crit, it might still be an upgrade compared to a piece which has neither hit/exp (as in the control build hit/exp is valued quite a bit.)

Additionally, if a piece has int, but includes haste/mastery, the loss of str is negligible compared to the gain on secondary stats.

Someone please correct me if my assumptions on why they might have been included in the list are wrong.

Something else that's worth taking into consideration is the "normal elite" items (ilvl 503) and "heroic elite" items (ilvl 516) that drop from Protectors of the Endless if the raid kills Protector Kaolan last. (Think back to the Assembly of Iron in Ulduar -- same concept here.)

So, we can add to the list:

Neck:

ilevel 516 [Shackle of Eversparks] - Protector Kaolan, Terrace of Endless Spring (Heroic Elite)
ilevel 516 [Kaolan's Withering Necklace] - Protector Kaolan, Terrace of Endless Spring (Heroic Elite)
ilevel 503 [Shackle of Eversparks] - Protector Kaolan, Terrace of Endless Spring (Normal Elite)
ilevel 503 [Kaolan's Withering Necklace] - Protector Kaolan, Terrace of Endless Spring (Normal Elite)

Wrist:

ilevel 516 [Bracers of Defiled Earth] - Protector Kaolan, Terrace of Endless Spring (Heroic Elite)
ilevel 503 [Bracers of Defiled Earth] - Protector Kaolan, Terrace of Endless Spring (Normal Elite)

Feet:

ilevel 516 [Deepwater Greatboots] - Protector Kaolan, Terrace of Endless Spring (Heroic Elite)
ilevel 503 [Deepwater Greatboots] - Protector Kaolan, Terrace of Endless Spring (Normal Elite)

Then, someone mentioned the rare 476 drops from the 5 man dungeons. We have two items of interest to us: [Inelava, Spirit of Inebriation] is a 1H sword from Yan-Zhu the Uncasked in Stormstout Brewery, and [Helios, Durand's Soul of Purity] is a hit/haste necklace from High Inquisitor Whitemane in Scarlet Monastery (expect to fight plate DPS for this).

I'd also give an honourable mention to [Ook's Hozen Slicer] as it's pretty much the only pre-raid tanking weapon available. (Inelava has a 0.3% drop rate according to Wowhead; as such, I don't consider it "available".)

Your links for the tier helms link to the holy ones instead of the prot.

Skye1013 wrote:If it has hit/exp and crit, it might still be an upgrade compared to a piece which has neither hit/exp (as in the control build hit/exp is valued quite a bit.)

...on which note, I've been umming and ahhing over the Ring of the Golden Stair for valor instead of Alani's. Expertise and crit vs. Dodge/Parry. Worth adding to the list?

We just had the discussion on the Gear Check thread - it's a very good piece, but there's an even BETTER valor piece coming with 5.1, so you might hold onto your horses just yet.
