Welcome to the Gear Advice and Discussion Forum of Maintankadin. Please ensure you read the following guidelines prior to posting any gear related questions.

Read the stickies
There are many excellent guides and helpful threads stickied in this forum. Chances are good the answer you're looking for is in one of them somewhere. If it isn't you can always PM me for directions to what you are looking for. Please do not make a new post prior to PM'ing me if you cannot find what you are looking for.

Use the Search function.
It's at the top of the page, right under the list of forum moderators. If you're getting too many results, play with your criteria a bit and try using the "Search for all terms" option; don't just type something like "block rating" and expect to find what you're looking for. Don't post a question until you've put a little bit of time into the Search function. Again feel free to PM me if you are struggling to find the information you need.

Questions Like These:

- "Is my gear good enough?"
- "Am I ready for ________?"
- "What badge gear should I get?"
- "What is my next upgrade?"

should be posted in the Gear Check/Advice Sticky Thread, if you post your question in the main gear forum it will be moved into the sticky thread and/or deleted. The Gear Check/Advice Sticky Thread is there to keep forum clutter to a minimum. We will try and answer the questions you post there quickly but to do so we need the following information,

Be detailed. Try to clarify exactly what you need help with. If you're unsure about something, be clear about what you're unsure about. Be sure to include any extra details that might impact the decision (loot rules, for example). Please also ensure you tell us what content you are currently working on.

Be complete. If you're asking for a comparison of items, link the items in your post. If you use a Wowhead link, it makes it even easier for people to help you, as this forum is set up for mouseover links (like this: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=22691). Try to avoid sending people searching to Wowhead or your armory just for one piece of gear.

Be concise. The idea isn't to give your life story. Obviously, you can if you want to, but if you're just looking for a quick answer any extraneous details are just going to complicate things.

Include a link to your armory. There's always a chance you're overlooking something, and having the ability to look up your armory will greatly help people in pinpointing it if that's the case. I personally recommend using a site like Armory Lite.

Thank the people who give advice to you. Those two words go a long way.

Any question that doesn't fall into one of these four catergories : -

- "Is my gear good enough?"
- "Am I ready for ________?"
- "What badge gear should I get?"
- "What is my next upgrade?"

should be posted as a question in its own right as a new thread but please be aware that if multiple threads are started with reference to the same issue then locks and merges will occur.

The Gear Forum is often a place where opinions and emotions run strongly and while we appreciate that we all have different needs and requirements and can't always see eye to eye, please make sure all your posts follow the main guidelines for posting on Maintankadin at all times. Remember if you do recieve help from somebody that a 'Thank you' is always appreciated.

Finally I should mention that we welcome discussion and debate on gear issues but make sure your opinions are backed up by solid facts and math or I will unleash theckhd and his horde of theorycrafters upon you. If you cannot back up your claims with fact and math then do not post.

Enjoy your stay, and don't be afraid to ask questions within the guidelines above. I am always happy to help, just send me a PM if you get stuck.

Get out there and tank!

/salute

Below are some posts that you should read regarding checking for upgrades and posting links to items.

How can I check for upgrades myself?

Panzerdin wrote:For many people, this forum is used to ask which pieces of gear would help to upgrade which slot. Although this is clearly a valid use of the forum, such questions take time to ask and to answer, and the answers can often be found without the need to ask for outside help, using this site:

http://www.wowhead.com

Wowhead is a World of Warcraft database. Put simply, it has a record of every item in the game (pretty much), along with user-generated comments and screenshots. Using this, it is possible to look for upgrades for oneself, without needing to post on here and wait for an answer. So how does one do this? Well, the main page of Wowhead looks like this:

Image

From this page, you need the "Database" option, which I've pointed out with a massive Pink arrow. Mouse over this, then over "Items" then "Weapons" (if you want to look at Weapons) or "Armor" (if you want to look at Armour). If you're looking for Armour, you should then click on "Plate" followed by the type of Armour you're looking for - if you're looking for weapons, you don't need to. Once you reach this page, you'll be looking at all the items of one type. While this is useful, there are between several hundred and several thousand choices for each slot. To narrow this down, you need to create a filter. The option to do this is shown here (highlighted once again by the giant pink arrow of doom):

Image

Once you click this button, you will see several drop down boxes. The ones you are interested in are "Level" (set between a few either side of your current level, or to 78+ if 80 (80 if looking for Epic upgrades)) and the bottom, unlabelled, box. When you click this, it opens a drop-down menu. Scroll down this, and select the top five options under "Defensive Stats". Then change the circles from "All filters" to "At least one". Finally, click "Apply Filter" and enjoy your list of gear!
