The difference between those two rings, Fate's Clutch and the ilvl 245 version of the Traitor King ring is ~.12 avoidance + block in favor of Fate's Clutch after factoring DR for my Anub'arak set.

I use the Band of the Traitor King over Fate's Clutch (as I never got it) In my set. My set is almost a mirror image to Absalom's with the exception of the ring and the weapon. As for the weapon, really the benefit of both of those is the socket for 20 extra defense, with the added benefit of hit on shiver. My original set was with Sorthalis, but when I realized that i could get more out of blood and glory I switched.

Here is my set, although i swapped out the T8 helm for the T9 helm to get some more block value.

I just saw what you're using. Do you really consider Shadow of the Ghoul that superior to Cloak of the Iron Council? I'm just trying to double check my options so I know exactly what to devote time towards getting, since I'm getting sick of naxxramas 25 D:

I personally like the block value, since I am taking a beating from the adds, but the only reason I used it over the other cloak is the fact that I don't have the Cloak of the Iron Council. My chardev set isn't the best in slot, its the actual set I use based off of the gear I have.

Is it better to gem my Boreal Shield with two 20 defense or to gem my crystal plated vanguard with defense for tanking the adds?

Any obvious changes I should make?

here's my set that i'm working on. missing the shoulders and belt (always passed on them) and the boe ring. its just over 3600 BV and i believe block capped or within a percent. going to test it out once i get at least the belt on normal 25 and see how it goes with all 4 adds on me. any thoughts or comments or corrections in my D/P/B/M addition even?

Anticipate getting some attempts in on Anub next week and I just wanted to make sure my alt's gear was up to snuff for solo tanking all four adds.

I have a lot of experience with heroic 10m Anub (tribute chests 3 weeks running) but I understand that add tanking is fundamentally different in 25 due to increased spawns + damage.

Luckily I've been able to pick up and hold on to a lot of block gear from Naxx, but I'm missing everything out of Ulduar due to swapping tanking mains to my DK for the instance.

The chardev I'm looking at right now is http://chardev.org/?profile=310132. I have an awful lot of block value but am low on rating.

My question would be should I swap in the ony trinket (good amount of defense, wasted stats on Hp/5 and parry) for the lavanthor's? I'm not sure what my avoidance is in that set since I haven't had the chance to fully gem defense yet, but it seems like more defense is always good assuming high block value.

I apologize if I'm rehashing a basic question but I haven't seen the trinket in any chardevs that have been posted.; I have a lot of experience tanking since WotLK but predominantly healed in vanilla/BC and am trying to fill out the gaps in my tanking knowledge.

Why do you think parry is wasted for reaching passive block cap?

The Onyxia Trinket is the highest avoidance trinket in the game making it ideal for the unhittable set up. That is one item that stays in there and doesn't move when making this set.

Onyxia Talisman and Lavanthor's Talisman are your trinkets.

Anytime man.

This thread and the Anub 25 one have got me thinking quite a bit about balance between 101.6% and block value. It was shown that dropping a little below to pick up block value is good. The question is, how much is to much and what is the good balance?

Kaienn in the other thread put on his autoblocker and found he was much easier to heal. That must have dropped him well below 101.6 but the increase in bv both passive and on use was very helpful.

So my question to those who have killed it or experimented with various sets, "How far below 101.6, replaced with BV gear, is the sweet spot to mitigate the most damage?"

I dropped down to 100.8% by swapping the T8 helm for the T9 helm, and in the process picked up about 200 more block value. This effectively reduced the average hit from about 2295 to around 2000. I really thought that the damage multiplier would have done a bit more for it, but in general, it seemed like I was less spiky, and still didn't take any unmitigated hits.

Yeah I am wondering if dropping to like 97-98% to pick up a ton of block value is worth it. If it is...maybe even lower. With Holy Shield (for a brief second) and Redoubt....the chance of being hit full value of that 3% or so must be reduced even more IMO.

Also...let's say you get hit 10 times in 1 second. That has happened to me.

If 9 of those are blocked and 1 is full value. Shaving 400-500 off each hit would probably still be less spikey even with 1 full hit in there.

I will mess around with it this week as we work on p3. Should have a kill soon and we are doing enough attempts for me to look at some numbers and experiment.

I normally get hit about 12 times a second. It would be interesting to see what would happen if you could boost up your block value to 4.2k and eat one real hit a second. The problem lies in the fact that the unmitigated hits are quite potent, at somewhere between 8-14k a pop (its difficult to say for sure, because they have been all over the map on my parses). With your block set, it would be hard pressed to take more than two of those on the chin.

I can say that 96% is too low. We use the 2 add tank strat (3 tanks total) and so I was aiming for as close as I could get to passive but having NR enchants on helm/cloak and using the lesser resist flask. Instead last night we were having lots of issues with our other tank dying early, so I would end up picking up all 4 and I would frequently get two back to back unblocked hits for ~12k (and die) after my HS charges went down (and them not out of position).

Though I was noticing that I essentially had one healer healing me, so it could just be that we don't have enough healing budgeted for an add tank with all 4 adds hitting them. How many/much healing does a 4 add tank need compared with a 2 add tank?
